Matty's POV
When we get to Candace's house, Megan puts the car into park and then turns around. "Well, Candace. It was so nice meeting you! I'll say, you're much better than any one of Matty's other girlfriends that i've met in the past. I'll get your number from Matty and send you those pictures." She winks, giving me a sinister grin.
"That sounds great. It was nice meeting you guys!" Candace says before she gets out of the car."
"Gee thanks, Megan." I groan, helping Phoebe get out of the car.
"Love you, honey bunny boo." I hear her say while blowing me a kiss.
"Love you, too! Thank you again. Seriously, I really owe you one." I tell her, leaning on her door and talking to her through the window.
"Anytime. For real, it was nice meeting your girlfriend. She seems cool. We all need to get together sometime." Megan says honestly.
"I don't know if my pride can handle another roast session from you two." I laugh, pointing at her and Kyler. "I'll see you both later."
"Have fun! But, not too much fun!" I hear Kyler yell before the window rolls up. I roll my eyes but smile at my two best friends. As fucking annoying as Megan is, she is like my little sister. Of course, it's more like the little sisten I never wanted, but she is still like a sister to me. She is great for Kyler. They balance eachother out.
"Your friends seem nice." Candace tells me as we walk up the driveway to her house.
"They are annoying as hell sometimes...but they are great. They really are." I tell her.
"I really like Megan. She seems...normal."
"Normal? You call that normal?" I laugh.
"Yeah. I mean, she just seems...I don't know. I don't know what I was expecting when I met your friends, but it definitely wasn't that." She admits.
"What? You expected them to both drive Tesla's and only drink Fuji water?" I ask her with a laugh.
"Well, basically." Candace laughs, shaking her head in embarassment.
"I mean, that's basically how Kyler is. Well, not really. Kyler is a lot like me. Megan on the other hand is the complete opposite of him. She is very minimalistic. She likes the have only what she needs, and believes that everything else is just a waste of space and a waste of money. But, Kyler believes the complete opposite. He thinks that since we have worked so hard for what we have, we might as well enjoy it as we please. So, they disagree on that at times, but Megan usually wins their arguments."
"Gee, I wonder how." Candace laughs.
"Megan said that she would like for all of us to get together sometime. You know...if that's something you would be interested in?" I say, not knowing if I am already crossing a line.
"Yeah. I would actually really like that." Candace says with a small smile. "Phoebe, go and get ready for dinner." Candace says, ushering her to her room.
"I should probably get going..." I say, not wanting to overstay with welcome.
"Already?" Candace asks with a look of what I hope is disapointment.
"I mean, yeah...unless you want me to make dinner for the two of you?" I offer, praying that she agrees.
"Yeah, I would like that." She smiles as we head into the kitchen to see what there was to cook.
"Well, we could always have the leftover pizza." I laugh, noticing that the only things that were in the pantry and refridgerator were pickles, grape jelly, a few tomatoes, half a box of pasta and a bunch of juice.
"You're telling me that Chef Matty can't work his magic with those few ingredients?" Candace laughs, pulling out the pizza box that was leftover from earlier.
"That is exactly what i'm saying." I agree.
"Can I ask you a question?" Candace asks me as silence fell over the room.
"Anything." I tell her.
"Did you ever....bring Haley around Megan and Kyler? Like....I know they're your best friends and all...It's just-"
"I tried in the begining, but Megan wouldn't have it. She hates Haley. Kyler really doesn't like her either. So, no. You're the only person Megan wants to actually hang out with again." I tell her truthfully." The only time I brought Haley around Megan was for work related events. Frailey and I often have to go to dinners and company gatherings, and to those most everyone brings their significant other. Well, of course Haley worked with me so she always went, and Megan and Frailey always went together...But it was always a fucking disaster."
"What do you mean?"
"You met Megan. You know what she's like. She tried to get along with Haley but Haley took everything Megan was saying to heart. I wasn't going to pick between the two of them, so I just kept them separate. Frailey tolerated Haley just because she worked for the company. After she got with another guy we worked with, he was going to fire her. But, she quit before he got the opportunity to. When she gave us her two weeks notice, he basically told her to pack her shit and get out within the hour."
"I think I like Kyler a little bit more now." Candace smiled, clearly amused with the entire story.
"They are great people." I smile. Silence fall over us once again as we shuffled around awkwardly.
"Hey, so about earlier-"
"Can we talk about what-" We both started to say in unison.
"You go first." I offer.
"No, you go first." She tells me, tucking her hair behind her ear and cheeks turning red.
"Okay. Well...what happened earlier doesn't change the way I feel about you. Actually, I want you more now than I did before, if that was even possible. I just...I love you, Candace. I wasn't lying when I said that. I love you, and I want this to work out. I don't know what I need to do to make you see that I fucked up and just want to be with you again. I don't know how i'll do it, but I am willing to break my back and try if it means getting you back. My friends love you already and I can clearly see why. You are such a beam of light to everyone you come into contact with, and it's hard to dislike you. I just want you to give me a chance. Please?" I beg.
She sighs and looks into my eyes. Sadness and confusion are filling the blue-green orbs, and I just want to fucking kiss her again. God, I just want to be with her again.
"I can't trust you, Matty." She tells me.
"I know, Candace. But just give me a second cha-" She cuts me off with a gesture of her hand.
"You didn't let me finish. I can't trust you. But, I want to trust you again. It is going to take some time. I'm going through way too much right now. But, having you here today if the first time that I have felt truly normal since everything that has happened. I want it to be that way again. It's just going to take some time. So, will you give me the time that I need?" She tells me. My heart fucking leaps out of my chest and does a fucking dance.
"Yes! Yes, of course. I will give you all the time you need. I just want to be able to see you and talk to you. I just-" The doorbell rings, cutting off my words.
"Who is that?" Candace asks to herself, and holds a finger up to pause my words. She walks over to the door and I follow behind her.
"Wait, i'll answer it. It could be a stranger." I tell her, moving infront of her protectively.
"Wow. My hero." She laughs sarcastically.
I open the door and come face to face with someone who looks all too familiar.
"Kristian?" Candace asks, stepping infront of my gently.
"Hey, Candace." He smiles, holding a few movies and a box of popcorn in his hands.
It's at this moment when I realize who the fuck he is. I am standing infront of her fucking ex boyfriend.
