Mother Nature always has
The upper hand
No matter how much
Humanity tries to
Predict, control, expunge dateA rainstorm worthy
Of the Amazon Rainforest
Fell upon us today
Torrential flooding
So epic
At least 5 backyards were underwaterHeavy boards floated from 3 houses away
Close to our house
Our lush grass
A literal swimming pool
Of brown, muddy waterDriving was the worst
My car, a Jeep
Experienced its first full submersion
Over and over again
As the relentless downpour
Unleashed a blinding cascade
That no windshield wipers could handleThe roads were covered in feet of water
Cars of all sizes drove with their hazards on
As it was impossible to see
The water seemed as if it would never
Drip off as a new deluge would hitNeither lanes on the parkway were safe
Cars stopped on the side hoping for the
Insanity to pass as even areas above sea level
Felt the brunt of water
The drops 2 inches long splattering
In earth shattering dimensions all aroundIt took all of my driving experience
Two decades worth
To maneuver home safely
Feeling as if I've just been through a warOnly to get home and face
The possibility of murky coldness, filled with
Dirt, rocks, twigs, branches
Reaching the house''Tis the season some say
But no
I've driven in bad rainy conditions before
Today beat all of them outIf firefighters were announcing pulling
People from cars in flooded streets
One knows that's serious
We're not the hurricane Capital of America
This was just a lot of rain with no windIn fact, was quite warm and humid
But the water beat out all the rest
To cause such fear
Saying goes
Never turn your back to the sea
But it should be added
Do not turn away from the sky either
No matter how safe you think you are
