Look up
At the buildings at night
Look up
In the Flatiron district
Breathe in
The crisp chill of cold
Breathe out
The differenceWalk passed
The trees lining park
Click heels
On an uneven sidewalk
Listen to
The tunes in your head
Exhale
The differenceLook up
At the moon in the sky
Always watch
The crosswalks
Be mindful
Of the cabdrivers speed
Know your
Own differenceGet set
For the subway ride uptown
Be mindful
Of doors and people
Keep track
Of your rightful destination
Expect
The differenceLook up
Around yourself
Know this isn't forever
NYC will always be your town
Though now you know the differenceLook up
Absorb the skyscrapers and light
Only one city's got them
And though you're ready to move on
Your heart will always carry this differenceSmile a bit
It's not time just yet
Though soon it shall be
New York, forever its charm
No one can ever tell you any differentLook up
Past, present, future
Your life has changed
But not the blessed feeling of
Loving New York City
I will always know that difference
