A new underwater camera
I bought before my trip that
Couldn't for the life of me
Figure out the taking of pictures
So most dives were videosIt wasn't until the memory card
Ran out of steam, did I realize
Cameras are great, sure
But when you look through them
You miss out on something important;
Using your imaginationOnce I didn't have to
Hold the recording device
I began to see the coral for
What it really was; artworkWith my eyes
The underwater world
Returned to what it used to be
Before technology took away
Our own perspective
The ability to remember
What we actually sawThree tubes of coral
Looking like a smiley face
Of Picasso's origin
Another like the mask from
The SAW films
A third from a distance
Like a face of a praying mantis
Old rope, twisted like a boa constrictor
At the bottom never going anywhereEverything looked like something
It was exceptional, significant
Only needing eyes and a memory
As well as 20 scuba divers
Admiring the view.
