Charity is in the eyes of the beholder
It is not necessarily about donating money
Can be giving time, hope, love, support
What does charity mean to me?From grade 4 through 12
I worked hands on with kids with special needs
Primarily Down Syndrome
Freshman year of college
I gave my time after 9/11
Packing canned goods to send to
Workers at Ground ZeroMonetary funds have gone to
St. Judes, StandUp2Cancer, other nonprofit organizations
I have donated books, clothing, furniture to those in need
Gave blood twice
When you give without expecting anything in return
That's the truth of the heartWhat many don't realize is that donating hope
Is one of the greatest gifts one can give
When the pandemic first started in China
In February
I organized a special projectOperation Help Send Hope
Featured sending regular cards through the mail
To patients and frontline workers in Wuhan
I personally sent nearly 30 cards
To 9 hospitalsThrough social media advertising, cards went from
At least 5 states and 2 countries
From friends and strangers alike
About a month ago, one of my cards
Came back unclaimedIt made me understand that all but one
Of my cards were received
And that what I started, mattered
So everyone else's cards should have gotten throughI believe in humanity
I believe people can help one another
Through hope, healing, prayer, and
Of course charityAfter all we are
One world, one people under one sky
