When you're surrounded
By a world of people
Jostling to be heard
Jumping higher
To be better then the rest
Not everyone can
Fight to be heard
The older generations
With our accomplishments
Our knowledge
Hard work
Won't get into an argument
With teens and 20 somethings
Vying for the spotlight
While ignoring those that can
Show them the way
Adults need encouragement too
Because we've dealt with the same battles
Before many of you were born
We deal with things
You're too young to comprehend
Like paying the bills
Making decisions
Struggling to live
While others rely on us
Spare us a world of self-absorbed teenagers
Who cannot see past the ends of their
Own noses and tongues
As we reach out to you
With our experiences
You shut us down, ignore us
Because what we are saying
Gets in the way of your
More important nonsensical words
Who then wonder why the old timers
Just leave
For all of our accomplishments
Battles for survival
Shooting for our stars
Reaching our moons
There's so much you can learn from us
If you try, stop speaking over us
Quiet down and really listen
See the writing on the walls
Read between the lines
Maybe, just maybe
You won't deal with the same negativity
And create your own positivity
But only if you don't turn us
Into invisible sculptures
Who you wish would fade away
