Gilbert's POV

"I need a girl like you..." sounded the radio and I closed my eyes, trying to enjoy the music, when it was of course stopped before I knew it.

"I JUST remembered something." said mum excited.

"What?" I asked as I yawn and helped myself with some water.

"Your wife will be there." said mum and I choked on my water.

"M-my what?" I stuttered.

"Your wife." said mum.

"Is this some kind of matchmaking thing, mum?" I asked as I sat up and closed the bottle.

"How can you not remember?" asked mum.

"Probably because I never proposed." I said and mum giggled.

"How about that redhead friend of yours?" asked mum and I became even more perplexed.

"Which one?"

"Your at a time friend who you liked liked. I think you were in a sort of relationship but I'm not sure."

"I don't know any redhead from Avonlea and if I do. I don't remember her." I said and my mum was hurt.

"Really?"

"Maybe, you confused her with one of my girlfriends here? Amanda?"

"No."

"Brianna."

"No."

"Lexie?"

"No."

"Stacey..."

"No."

"Corina."

"Isn't that a wine's name?"

"It's carina."

"Oh. It's a red wine, isn't it?"

"I think so."

"What a coincidence." said mum and I nodded.

"So...?"

"No." said mum and I shrugged.

"Did she have a name?"

"No, Gil she didn't. People just called her nameless girl." said mum with an eyeroll.

"A redhead with no name... I have a pickup line, already. Is your name Ariel? Because I think we mermaid for each other." I said with a proud smile.

My mum simply face-palmed.

"Please don't tell me you actually said that to a girl."

"No of course not. I just thought of it. But, I did use the one with 'Damn baby, is your name Wi-Fi? Cause I'm sure feeling a strong connection.'" I said and my mum laughed.

"Was any girl interested?"

"Well, they found me cute. I can't blame them." I said and my mum frowned.

"Anne..."

"Anne... Are you down to Annette-flix and chill?" I said with a chuckle.

"No. No. No. Her name is Anne."

"Anne?" I asked perplexed.

"Yes."

"It doesn't ring a bell." I said.

"It wasn't long ago." said mum.

"So, nine years isn't long enough now?" I asked, annoyed.

"Gil--" my mum was interrupted by a text.

"Hey dude. When are you coming? - Charlie."

"You are still hanging out with Charlie though."

"I did have to see him every Christmas so we have a friendship." I said as I replied to Charlie.

"So... You don't remember her? You promised to marry her. You hanged out all the time." said mum, hopefully.

"Wait..." I said as it finally hit me.

"Yes?"

"The girl with the freckles, skinny and if I'm not wrong, she is thin?" I asked as an image of her finally hit me.

"Yes." said mum with a clap.

"Mum, I was young. I didn't mean it." I said with a chuckle and opened my phone.

"Gilbert Blythe. You were my cup of tea, but I drink champagne now?" said mum as she read my Instagram bio.

"Yes."

"You drink alcohol?" asked mum.

"I... Are we there yet?" I turned to dad, as I tried to change the subject.

My mum scowl but didn't say anything as she silently tried to keep calm for when we would get there.
