Anne's POV

I took a deep breath as I took everything in.

... What kind of sick joke is this?

Alright I'm calm.

It's just stupid Gilbert acting normal.

I can't breath...

"One two three..." I whispered as I took a deep breath.

"Anne..." I heard Gilbert say quietly and I swear I wanted to hit him all the way to the moon.

"I'm going to go now." I said as I stood up, trying to process everything.

"What? Why?"

"Marilla made Jerry text me to go home." I said, coming up with a lie was easier than expected.

"I'm sure she can wait five minutes so we can talk." said Gilbert as he sat up.

"Talk?" I said, wanting to dig a hole and push myself inside.

"Y-yes." stuttered Gilbert as he sat up.

"Anything in particular?" I asked, hoping that he would tell me the truth.

"No. What about you?" said Gilbert, casually.

"Nothing?"

"Oh, there's something... Do you have some water?" asked Gilbert and I opened my bag, took the bottle and threw it on his chest.

"Jeez. You don't have to be so Violet." said Gilbert as he opened the bottle.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Violet is a girl from Nova Scotia. She had quite the temper and she was awfully competitive, sweet nonetheless." shrugged Gilbert.

Was he actually talking to me about his ex?

"I want to pretend to care but I really really don't."

"Why are you acting this way?"

"I BET you don't know." I said bitterly.

"Then, you won that bet." said Gilbert as he chuckled.

"You won yours too." I said confidently.

"What are you talking about?" asked Gilbert, fed up.

"If you didn't want me to find out then how about you delete the text... Wait too late. DELETED the text." I said as I stood up furiously.

"Listen..." said Gilbert as he stood up too. Finally, understanding what I meant.

"No. You listen."

"Anne..."

"You don't get to talk. I do... You played me like some ping-pong game. I was the ball going around. You were the one playing with that good for nothing friend of yours." I said and Gilbert approached me.
