That is by far the most ridiculous sentence I've ever heard. When my mother wanted a child I doubt her first thought was, "I'll be unselfish by giving birth." No, because that would be ridiculous. She did it because she wanted a baby. She imagined the happiness a baby would bring to her life. She had always wanted a child, any child to raise as her own.And that's perfectly okay. But what isn't okay is when we suggest parenthood is some kind of selfless act towards the unborn, and then use that pompous agenda to push people into situations they know aren't right for them. Some people can't afford children, don't like them or know they won't love the child as much as the child would need, and some of us are asexual. In which case, wouldn't it be more selfish to HAVE one?
There is no shame in being child-free for whatever reason you have.
