High school students gather around the large bonfire, most of them probably drunk. Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie are gathered in a tiny circle, bottles of beers in their hands.
"Oh, come on! The fun police is here," Caroline whines out with a perky voice and I let out a tiny chuckle, shaking my head.
"As long as nobody gets injured or died and I get one of those beers everything is fine," I comment, a grin forming on my face. Elena giggles and reaches down, grabbing a bottle of beer and handing it to me.
"Is your little sister really supposed to be handing you beers?" Bonnie asks, raising her thin eyebrows and I shrug my shoulders, twisting off the top.
"I don't make the rules, but I do have a question. Who is that hottie staring at you?" I ask, glancing back at the man with short brown hair, forest green eyes, a sharp jaw, and eyes fixed on my sister.
Caroline lets out a tiny gasp of excitement and a smug expression forms on her face. "That is Stefan Salvatore, he's new," Caroline informs me with a happy tone.
"Salvatore? I'm pretty sure I met his brother yesterday," I conjure, taking a sip of the beer. The taste makes my tastebuds jump and my mouth waters for more. Elena lowers her eyebrows with confusion and her eyes lock onto mine.
"He never mentioned a brother," she states, gazing over at Stefan. I clench my jaw and lower my head, refusing to make eye contact.
"And you two can talk that over," I mumble out, walking away from the group of girls. I lean against the wooden post, finishing off my beer as Stefan walks up to me.
"Hey, I'm Stefan," he introduces himself, holding out his large hand.
"I know, you're fawning over my little sister, Elena. I'm Sam," I reply dryly, giving his hand a firm shake.
"You two don't look alike," he comments, a kind smile on his face. I let out a tiny chuckle and grit my teeth, looking over at my sister laughing with Caroline and Bonnie.
"It's probably because I'm adopted," I comment and his expression drops.
"I had no idea," he shakes his head, clearly ashamed. I open my mouth to say something, but a loud scream cuts my off. A wave of shock trails its way down my spine, and I perk up my head.
"Somebody help!" Elena screams loudly, striking fear inside my heart. I race over to Elena as she walks beside Jeremy who's carrying Vicki. He carefully places Vicki down on the table, a wound on her neck and crimson blood pouring out everywhere.
My heart races at the sight of blood, I've never seen that much before. I turn away for a moment, my stomach churning.
"Somebody call the ambulance!" Matt shouts loudly, people gathering around the sight of his sister.
"It's her neck. Something bit her, she's losing a lot of blood. It's bad," Elena rambles on nervously, her hands fiddling around in the air. I glance over my shoulder, spotting Stefan deep inside the crowd a few feet away.
Stefan stands wide eyed in the crowd with his jaw dropped open. His eyes meet mine and I shoot him a worried gaze. He slowly backs away from the crowd, disappearing the moment I blink.
I tug on Elena's sleeve and she looks down at me with watery eyes full of fear. "You need to Jeremy home, now," I demand with a harsh tone. Elena grabs Jeremy and walks out to the parking lot.
Bonnie stands a few feet away, her whole body trembling and I walk over to her, shoving my hands into the pockets of my jacket.
"Bonnie, you okay?" I ask with concern and she shakes her head.
"I have this feeling, Sam," Bonnie mumbles out, her voice trembling.
"This is just the beginning," she states, taking my breath away. My lips slightly part open with surprise and I gulp, glancing back into the dark woods.
