"You can stay here tonight."

I sink down onto the couch next to Damon and he pours the bourbon into two glasses.

"So, any ideas on how we are going to get Stefan out of the tomb? I know he's just suffering in there with Katherine," I ask curiously and he leans his head back, letting out a deep sigh.

"Bonnie's witchy powers haven't been working lately, so there's our first option...gone. No, no ideas," he repeats with a firm tone, chugging down the glass of bourbon.

"Great, I'm sure Elena will a find way before all of us," I chuckle out, taking a sip of the sweet bourbon. The taste fills my mouth and I swirl it around for a minute before swallowing.

Suddenly the glass breaks loudly and I flinch at the sudden loud sound. The cold wind blows in from the broken window and goosebumps form along my arms. Damon and I leap up from the couch as Rose rushes into the living room. Damon grabs a sword from the shelf and his blue eyes dart around. Deep growling from behind fills my eardrums and I slowly turn around.

The werewolf stands right in front of me, baring it's razor sharp teeth and I freeze in place, unable to move or breath for a moment. Suddenly the werewolf leaps at me and my eyes widen.

"Sam!" Rose yells out loudly, pushing me out of the way. I gasp loudly and thud on the ground, panting heavily. The werewolf pins Rose on the ground and she lets out a loud scream full of agony as it bites into her shoulder.

My jaw drops open and my heart skips a beat. Damon stabs the werewolf in the side and it lets out a whimper of pain. The werewolf leaps through the broken window and disappears into the night.

"Oh my God, Rose," I mumble out, scrambling over to her. Blood runs down her shoulder blade and the tears fill her soft eyes. Her body shakes with shock and suddenly the wound starts to heal over.

"It's healing," Damon announces with confusion and a hint of relief.

"I thought a werewolf bite was fatal," Rose stumbles over her words, letting out a quiet sob and burying her head into her arms. The door starts to click open and I perk up my head, meeting the forest green eyes of Stefan Salvatore.

"Stefan!" I call out with excitement, running over to him. He lets out a tiny chuckle and ruffles his hand through my hair.

"How the hell did you get out?" Damon scoffs out, helping Rose onto her feet.

"Elena, she made some sort of deal with Elijah. I'm sure she'll explain it to you later. Katherine's still trapped in the tomb," Stefan announces and I chew on my bottom lip.

Elena just goes around making deals with everyone, huh?

"Then you better go see your girlfriend. I'm sure she'll be happier to see you than Damon," I tease him and he raises his eyebrows, nodding his head. Stefan disappears out of the house and Rose lets out a sigh of relief.

Rose disappears down the hallway and Damon walks up to me, concern laced in his blue orbs and I shoot him a confused look.

"What's wrong?" I ask and he lowers his head with shame.

"A werewolf bite is fatal to vampires. Rose, she isn't going to make it," Damon speaks in a low voice and I let out a scoff full of disbelief.

"But her wound healed, Damon. You and I both saw that," I reassure him and he shakes his head, his lips curling into a wide frown.

"When Stefan arrived, her wound reappeared, and it was getting worse each second. I don't know how much time she has left," he whimpers out with a sad tone, and I place a hand over my chest, trying to calm down my rapid heartbeat.

"How do you know for sure though? I mean, we can't just write her off," I shrug my shoulders, glancing down the empty hallway.

"Sam, please, you have to trust me," Damon begs me and I don't hesitate to nod my head. I clench my fists and I glare at the ground.

"I should get home then and I'll tell Elena," I mumble out, spinning around on my heel and starting to walk off towards the door.

Suddenly Damon's fingers wrap around my wrist and he pulls me back, my chest bumping into his. A quiet gasp escapes my lips and I gulp, our eyes connecting.

"Wait...you can stay here tonight," Damon suggests, his eyes trailing over my body.

"We'll both watch over Rose, okay? Make sure she doesn't get worse," I assure him and he nods his head. I take my spot on the couch and drag the blanket over my body, closing my heavy eyelids.
