Colors of the Wind
"May I remind you of a tragic little story of a girl named Vicki Donovan?"
I stand in the middle of the carnival as the high school kids stand around and chat, ride the rides, and drink. Stefan walks up to me and he shoots me a tiny grin.
"Do you know anything about Mason Lockwood?" he asks all of a sudden and my eyes widen with surprise.
"Mason? Yeah, we dated for a few years before he left town. Why?" I ask curiously, shrugging my shoulders.
"The Gilbert device, it effected Mayor Lockwood, but he wasn't a vampire. There's something supernatural about the Lockwoods," Stefan reveals and I chew on my bottom lip, pondering in my mind.
"I mean Mason's always been super strong...I guess. Almost like a supernatural strength you could say," I mumble out and he nods his head, leaning forward with interest.
"Maybe he's a ninja turtle or a werewolf," Stefan suggests, letting out a tiny chuckle.
"A werewolf? Not to raise an alarm with the Mystic Falls gang, but it does sound like the next supernatural thing next to vampire," I mumble out and Stefan furrows his eyebrows, wrinkles crowding his forehead.
"Werewolves...not impossible," Stefan mumbles out and I open my mouth to say something, but Damon jogs over to us.
"I need you guys to come with me now," Damon demands with a serious tone and I glare into his eyes. Damon leads Stefan and I inside the high school and inside an empty room where Elena is.
"Bad news, gang. Blondie is a vampire," Damon announces and Elena's jaw drops open.
"Caroline?" she asks and my stomach twists into uneasy knots.
"What?!" I gasp out with shock.
"How did this happen? Hm?" Stefan asks with confusion, his hand rubbing his chin.
"Well I fed her blood and Katherine obviously killed her and A plus B equals..." he explains with a witty tone.
"But why?" Elena asks eagerly.
"Because Katherine is a manipulative, nasty little slut," Damon retorts harshly with anger and disgust.
"She said game on. I mean, what does that even mean?" Stefan stutters out, confusion written all over his face.
"It means she's playing dirty. She wants us to know," Damon comments with a firm tone and I chew on my bottom lip.
"But why Caroline?" Elena asks with shock, her eyes darting all around.
"I don't know," he mumbles out.
"We have to find her," I speak up and Damon nods his head.
"And kill her," he replies dryly and I cock my head, glancing into his blue eyes. My palms become sweaty and I grimace with disgust.
"No, absolutely not," Stefan raises his voice, shaking his head with denial.
"May I remind of a tragic little story of a girl named Vicki Donovan? Caroline's mother is a vampire hunter. She is the last person who make it as a vampire," Damon raises his voice and I lower my head.
I can't to admit it, but Damon is right. Vicki, she was dangerous and tried to hurt my family. She wasn't like that before and then becoming a vampire...it just changed her.
"Elena and I will go find her," Stefan reassures me, taking Elena's hand and leading her out of the high school. I glance over at Damon and let out a deep sigh, storming out of the room. I lean against the cold wall and run my hands over my face.
I hear mumbled voices from outside the school and I perk up my head, a chill running down my spine. I shove the door to the dark outside where Elena is standing in front of Caroline, Damon holding out a stake to my sister's chest.
My heart skips a beat and I leap forward. "Step away from my sister!" I demand, rushing over. His eyes soften the moment they meet mine and I gulp. He lowers the stake down and it clatters on the ground.
My eyes lock onto Caroline's face, dried blood all over her lower face. "I'll get her cleaned up," Stefan says, leading Caroline back inside the school. Elena leaps towards me and throws her arms around me, hugging me tightly.
I freeze for a moment and then I lean into her embrace, squeezing her tightly. "Everything's going wrong, Samantha," Elena comments and a frown forms on my face.
"I know. We'll figure it out together," I whisper, a warm tear trailing down my cheek. I bury my head into her shoulder and let out a shaky breath.
