"Our track record with dances isn't the best."

I step down into the Lockwood cellar as Alaric leads me and Elena into the dark tunnels

I step down into the Lockwood cellar as Alaric leads me and Elena into the dark tunnels. The color air flowing in slaps against my skin and goosebumps form along my arms.

"It's a really, really old story. That right there is a moon cycle. A man and a werewolf," Alaric announces

"I thought the Lockwoods came in the 1860s?" I speak up and Alaric nods his head.

"The Lockwoods did, and this story is way older than them," Alaric replies dryly, shining the flashlight on some white writing across the cave walls.

"What are those?" I ask, stepping forward with interest.

"Names and they're not native. They're written in Viking script," Alaric explains and my eyes dart around the cave nervously.

"Vikings?" Elena questions with disbelief and Alaric nods his head.

"This name here, when translated reads...Niklaus and Elijah and Rebekah," Alaric reveals and my heart skips a beat. My sister's jaw drops open and she gulps.

"So, they've been here since way before Mystic Falls was founded," I mumble out, crossing my arms over my chest.

Elena and I travel back through the Lockwood cellar, traveling up the stairs where the sun beams down brightly onto us.

"The other day when we could see people who were dead, I saw Lexi. She started to help me with Stefan getting his humanity back," Elena explains and I shoot her a soft smile.

"I saw my birth mom," the words weakly flow out of my mouth and Elena snaps her head towards me, her eyes widening with interest.

"Really? I didn't know that she was supernatural," Elena comments and I let out a tiny chuckle.

"Neither did I. It was nice to see her again, knowing that she's okay now," I assure my sister and she bobs her head.

"I'm going to head on home. You should go with Alaric and try to figure out what the rest of the writings mean," I suggest and Elena lowers her head as I walk away.

I walk inside my room and come to a harsh stop, seeing Damon laying on my bed messing around with a stuffed dog. His eyes meet mine and my stomach churns.

"We got Mikael," Damon announces with a confidence tone and a tiny grin on his face.

"How?" I scoff out with confusion.

"No idea, I guess Katherine came through," he sighs out and I nod my head, sinking down onto my bed next to him.

"I think we've got Rebekah on our side, too. Now, all we've got to do is get ready for homecoming," I grumble out and he turns towards me, his eyes glued on me.

"Our track record with dances isn't the best, you sure you want to go?" he asks with concern and I roll my eyes with annoyance.

"I've got to watch after my sister even if that means going to high school dances. Come on," I beg him eagerly, standing up from the bed and holding out my hand. Damon shoots me a firm glare and grabs onto my hand.

The music blares loudly from Tyler's mansion and Damon scoffs with disgust. "Nothing good can come out of Klaus throwing a party," Damon comments as we step inside and the music muffles a tiny bit.

"Well, I hope you have a better plan because you're gonna need one," I assure him, glancing around at the hybrids in the party.

"Always one step ahead," Damon clears his throat, revealing the white oak stake inside his suit jacket and my heart skips a beat. I grab onto his wrist tightly and drag him inside a separate room.

"Why the hell do you have that?!" I raise my voice with alarm, and he presses a finger to my lips, signaling me to be quiet in a house full of hybrids.

"I'm the only one who can stop this. Don't you trust me?" he asks, tilting his head and running his finger down my lips. My chest pounds heavily and I gulp.

"Yes," I mumble out quietly, the heat rising up in my face.

"Go on home," he demands with a firm voice and I chew on my bottom lip, nodding my head.

I swing open the door to see Elena and Damon in the living room. "Mikael's dead and Stefan's gone. We failed," Damon announces, taking a large sip of bourbon. I blink with confusion and my breath hitches in my throat.

"How did this happen?" Elena scoffs out with disbelief, running her hand through her hair.

"We though of everything, Elena. Klaus having hybrids, Mikael turning on us. We brought in Katherine so you weren't in danger. Anything that could have gone wrong, we were prepared," Damon explains, anger pumping through his veins.

"I don't understand. Stefan wanted Klaus dead more than anything. That's what we were counting on," Elena sighs out with disappointment.

"We blew it," Damon states through gritted teeth with anger and I lower my head with shame.

"Where did Katherine go?" I ask curiously and Damon's eyes turn dark.

"She ran for the hills like usual. The minute things got bad, who blames her? Klaus would've crushed her. I had Klaus! This could've all been over!" Damon yells loudly and I gaze back at my sister.

I give her a reassuring nod and she leaves the living room, disappearing around the corner.

Damon turns his back towards me, facing the fire place and I stand next to him. "You know maybe I should've listened when you said our track record with high school dances aren't the best," I sigh out, wrapping my fingers around his arm and resting my head on his shoulder.
