I slowly open my heavy eyelids, finding myself on Damon's bed. My eyes trail down his back as he sits on the edge of the bed. "Damon," I mumble underneath my breath, reaching out my hand to him. He turns his head towards me, and his eyes slightly widen.
"Easy, Stefan did a real number on you," Damon comments, his lips curling into a warm smile.
"I know," I groan out, running my fingers over the white bandage on my neck. Damon's eyes soften as they meet mine and I carefully sit up.
"Elena's okay, but Klaus took a good amount of her blood. She's resting upstairs just like you should be," he warns me, cocking an eyebrow and I roll my eyes with amusement.
"I'm fine, Damon. I promise," I reassure him, nodding my head. His eyes search in mine and he leans towards me.
I find myself instantly drawn towards him and leaning as well. "You know...I'm not on my deathbed anymore," he whispers alluringly, and I gulp, nervously filling my body. His soft hands find their way to my face, cupping my hands.
My fingers wrap around the hem of his shirt and my palms become sweaty. My heart skips a beat as he moves in closer.
Of course, I want him to kiss me. With everything going on between Elena and Stefan, I'm not sure if its right. For her to see us happy just like her and Stefan once were, I don't want to cause her that kind of pain.
I squeeze my eyes shut and drop my head lower. His thumbs gently brush against my cheeks, heat radiating up to my face. His soft lips press against my forehead, and I slowly open my eyes, staring at his chest.
"Well, isn't this cozy?" Stefan's voice fills the room and my eyes flicker up to his, gently pulling away from Damon. My body freezes, the color draining from my face and Damon shifts, his back facing me and his hand resting on my knee.
"What are you doing here, brother?" Damon asks with a sharp tone.
"Last I checked, I live here. Klaus is gone, but he's asked me to keep watch on Elena until he returns," Stefan explains, leaning against the doorframe.
"I don't think that's a good idea," I speak up and his dark eyes glance into mine. My body jerks to an unexpected still and the hair tinges along the back of my neck.
"I can hear your heartbeat, are you scared? Don't worry, I'm not here for another bite," Stefan retorts and I inhale sharply, flinching at his words. Stefan grins widely and leaves the room.
"What happened to him?" I ask with concern, the darkness leaving the room, following behind the younger Salvatore. Damon presses his lips together and turns towards me.
"Klaus made him turn off his humanity that night. He's lost all the good parts to him and now he's a pain in my ass," Damon complains, falling back onto the bed and letting out a deep sigh.
"You think Elena can bring his humanity back? Is that even possible?" I question and he shrugs his shoulders.
"The Stefan that she knows is gone, buried deep inside of himself. It won't be easy for her," he responds and I nod my head, sinking down into the bed next to him.
His shoulder grazes mine and my breath hitches in my throat. "Elena won't give up that easily on him," I comment.
"I know," he whispers softly, our eyes meeting. His hand trails down my arm and opens up my palm, sliding his fingers through mine.
