"I'll kiss you when you're not on your deathbed."

I carefully help Damon lay down on his bed and he rests his head on his pillow, letting out a shallow breath. The sweat gathers on his forehead and I chew on my bottom lip, pondering.

"Don't you dare move," I warn him before rushing out of the room. I gather inside the living room with Elena and Stefan.

"There might be a cure, but I have to find Klaus to get it," Stefan informs us and Elena rapidly shakes her head.

"No. He's going to kill you," Elena protests with worry and I dig my fingernails into the palms of my hands.

"No, he had the chance to kill me, but he didn't. I owe it to Damon to find it. I'll be back," Stefan reassures us, exiting out the front door.

Elena shoots me a soft gaze and I lower my head, a sigh leaving my lips. "You don't have to stay, Elena. I'll watch over him," I assure her, and she nods her head.

"Call me if anything happens," she comments, before leaving. I walk inside Damon's room where he's lying on his bed, his eyes closed. I watch carefully as his chest gently goes up and down with each breath he takes.

I dip a cloth into a bowl of cold water and squeeze it out. I lay the cloth on his forehead, and he stirs from the tiny movement. My eyes lock onto the large ring around his middle finger and I reach down, lacing our fingers together.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Damon questions, slowly opening his eyelids. His usual glistening blue orbs are now dull and weak.

"Taking care of you," I reply dryly, and he glances up into my eyes.

"I'm going to die whether you take care of me or not," he comments and my lips curl into a wide frown.

"Hm, well that's just too bad because I'm not letting you die," I sigh out, raising my eyebrows.

"Like you have a choice," he retorts, coughing loudly and I scoff quietly.

"Stefan's trying to find a cure for you. You know, he would never let you die," I point out, wiping the sweat off his face. Damon suddenly groans out with pain and my eyes widen.

"You need to get out of here, I could hurt you, Sam," Damon says with a shaky, weak voice and I shake my head.

"I trust you, Salvatore. Even if you did hurt me, I'd forgive you a thousand times over," I try to comfort him as his breathing becomes shallow.

"Why?" he asks, his pink lips slightly falling open. My eyes trail over his body and I gently squeeze his hand. I run the cloth over his face one more before placing it on the nightstand.

"I think you know why, Damon," I speak clearly, shuffling down on the bed and resting my head on his shoulder. Using my free hand, I wrap it around his torso and the tears burn at my eyes.

"You've should've met me in 1864, you would've liked me," Damon mumbles out, his breathing getting lighter and lighter.

"But I like you now," I whisper, hot tears burning my cheeks. I sniffle quietly and tighten my grip around him.

"Really?" he whispers with a raspy voice, and I let out a tiny giggle, nodding my head eagerly. My eyes flicker down his pink lips and I inch closer to him. My heart beats rapidly and I inhale sharply.

I want to kiss him, I've wanted to kiss him for a while. Not like this though, not if this is the last kiss we'll ever share.

"I'll kiss you when you're not on your deathbed," I mumble out, my chest pounding.

"Promise?" he mutters out and I smile weakly, nodding my head.

"Everybody should be thanking me. I brought the cure," Katherine comments, appearing inside the room.

Katherine walks inside, holding a bottle full of blood. My eyes widen and I quickly stand up from the bed as she walks over. She dips the blood inside Damon's mouth and he doesn't hesitate to swallow it.

"Where's Stefan?" I ask with concern and Katherine lets out a tiny chuckle.

"Don't plan on seeing him anytime soon. He made a deal with Klaus and it was all to save you, Damon. He left with Klaus and he never coming back," Katherine's words sends chills down my spine and Damon's eyes widen.
