"Trust And Needles"
Caitlin’s POV
Today’s the day. The day I’ve been dreading. The day that Austin goes against Dave and his team. He hasn’t told me anything else, I’m just assuming its Dave.
Austin walked down the stairs and AC, Robert, and Zach followed him. I stood at the door waiting to kiss him goodbye. The way they walked down the stairs reminded me of an action movie. It was all in slow motion as they descended the stairs in their all black attire.
“You have everything?” I asked nervously while moving uncomfortably.
He smiled a little and walked up to me. He cupped my face in his hands and I froze. Yes, he still has this affect on me.
“Everything will be fine. Their team doesn’t stand anything against mine.”
“Okay.” I said quietly and unwillingly.
He leaned down and pecked my lips slowly, but quick at the same time, if that even makes any sense.
“Trust. Just trust me. I’ll be fine.” He kept his hands on my cheeks.
I just nodded in response.
“I love you. Just-“ He stopped when his phone starting going off in his pocket.
He groaned and pulled it out.
“Unknown.” He said turning to the guys standing behind us.
They all shrugged and Austin stepped away from me and walked around a little when he held the phone to his ear.
“Who is this?”
The person on the other side of the line talked.
“Why?”
He paused and looked at the boys.
“Deal.” He said and hung up the phone.
“What’s up?” Zach asked.
“It was him. He said come alone, or there will be consequences.” He said. “I accepted it. He’ll be by himself and so will I. One on one.”
“You sure about this?” Alex questioned him.
“Its probably better.” Austin shrugged.
“Better? If he tries to kill you we won’t be there as back up.”Alex dropped his arms to his sides.
Austin glanced at me and back at Alex.
“I’ll be fine.” He said in a different tone and then stormed up the stairs. On his way up he mumbled, “He said be there at 9.” Then he disappeared into our room.
“Um, I guess we’ll leave then.” Robert said.
I said goodbye to all of them then walked up the stairs to our bedroom.
I opened the door that Austin slammed before he came in here.
He sat on the bed facing the big window looking outside into the dark night.
“Austin?”
He didn’t answer me.
“Come on.”
Still no answer.
I climbed onto the bed and crawled over to his back which has been facing me the whole time. I wrapped my arms around his neck and rested my chin on his shoulder.
“Sorry Caitlin it’s just…frustrating.” He groaned and ran his hands down his face. “No one trusts me on this.”
“I trust you. I have every ounce of faith for you.” I said and he had a smile tugging slightly at his lips.
“I have to go to work, but I’ll see you when I get back. Hopefully not in the emergency room again.” I joked, but his smile dropped. “Hey.” He looked at me. “I love you so much, and I will see you when you get back.” I placed my hand on his cheek and kissed him.
I walked out the door leaving him with a little, very small-maybe not even that visible- smile on his face. I grabbed my phone and keys and I was out the door.
I walked to my car and squinted my eyes when I saw a familiar car parked across the street. I just can’t put my finger on it. I was about to unlock my car, but I was stopped.
A huge hand was covering my mouth and something touching my head. I didn’t have to think twice that it was a gun.
“You make one f*cking move, I’ll shoot.”
Dave. Dave is holding me. Great, this can’t be good.
He moved the gun away from my head and I think he pulled something out of his pocket. My back was against his chest so I couldn’t see what he was doing.
Suddenly he plunged a needle into my arm and I let out a cry of pain that was barley heard thanks to his hand. My body suddenly went limp and I felt myself slipping into a slumber.
Wait! I’m not tired!
No!
Body! Stay awake!
Don’t-
And I was out.
Austin’s POV
I arrived at the house and put my game face on.
Dave told me to come alone, no back up. He said he would be alone.
I walked into the house and Dave and some other guy sat there.
“You said you would be alone.” I said loudly and slammed the door.
“Sit.” He said in a weird voice.
I sat down and looked at the other guy.
No way.
“What are you doing here?” I spat at him.
“Let me talk.” Dave said calmly.
“You don’t have control over me anymore.” I stood up.
“We are all in trouble.” Caitlin’s dad’s eyes finally looked at me.
“What?” I asked.
He didn’t answer me. Neither of them did. They both stood up though.
“Get him.” He said really quickly. Before I could react they had me in a good grip and them stuck a sharp needle into my arm, injecting something into me. They were lying about the being in trouble thing.
At least I wasn’t stabbed with a knife.
I felt like my body was fighting to stay awake. It’s like I was falling asleep.
“Night, night Mahone.” Was the last thing I heard until I was asleep/passed out on the floor.
