“Breaking More Hearts”
Caitlin’s POV
“What if I said I wanted to help you? Then would you tell me?”
His eyes darted from the floor to me.
“No.” He folded his arms…He never does this.
“Austin please.”I said quietly.
“Caitlin there is so much you know, but you just don’t know it.” He stepped back.
“That makes no sense. Maybe if you told me what was going on I could-“
“Just drop it.” He said walking away from me and into the kitchen.
“I won’t. Not yet.” I said following him.
“Why are you so stubborn?” He put both his hands on the counter top.
“You’ve asked me that before. Can I guess what the secret is?”
“Caitlin it’s a big secret.” He shook his head.
“So let me piece it together.” I said and he said something under his breath, which I didn’t catch. “Something is going on. You are in a gang again and other gangs are after you as usual. You never quit this gang sh*t, you just lied to me.”
“I-“
“I’m not done.” I held my hand up. “And now I know some secret about someone or something and everyone wants to know this secret. Therefore people are after me. Many people. Have you known people have been after me for a long time?” I asked cocking my head to the side.
He twisted his mouth to the side and said something he probably wasn’t supposed to tell me.
“I’ve known for a while, but these gangs haven’t got to you because if you knew it or not I was always protecting you.”
I nodded. “And you knew I knew about this secret, or you figured I knew, since high school. The only reason you talked to me back in senior year was because Dave told you to do it. Then you dated me, told me you loved me, and used me.”
“No I didn’t.” He butted in.
“You never paid attention to me before you had an order to do so. He told you to get close to me, make me fall for you, so I could trust you enough to maybe tell you the ‘secret’. Is that true?”
“Yes, but-“
“You got close to me for this damn secret. You put me through the old gang crap, all this famous drama, betrayal, loneliness, and hell. You broke my heart, how many times now?” I said getting madder.
“Okay yes! Yes! I was told to get close to you to figure out the secret! But, when I did, I fell in love with you! That love was real!”
“You’re lying.” I folded my arms.
“No I’m not.” He said stepped very close to me.
“Should I believe you? Give me one good reason.” I looked up at him.
“I never asked you about the secret, did I?”
He was right. I looked to the side and thought about it.
“Did I ever not try to save you from any situation?”
I didn’t look at him.
“I’m protecting you. I’ve been doing that this whole time. I fell for you Caitlin.” He grabbed my shoulders and I looked back at him. “I was one of the gangs after you, but that changed when I got to know you. I fell head over heels for you.” He said looking me straight in the eye. And for some reason I completely believed him. Something just clicked.
