“Gene..??” Niche searched for Gene pero wala siyang makitang nakatayo sa quarters nila, only to find out that it is because he’s sitting on the ground. “Gene!!”

Hinihingal pa rin si Gene with a scrunched up face at maluwang ang pakakasintas ng sapatos nito.

Tiningnan agad ni Niche ang lagay ng paa nito and Gene did nothing as she pried on it. Magang-maga iyon at maluwang na ang benda.

“Kung hindi mo na kaya..”

“I’m playing,” maagap na sagot nito.

With that said, Niche instantly stood up only to be stopped when Gene held her hand. “What?” when he didn’t say anything, she said, “I’m going to change your dressing.” He let her go.

“…”

Silence was like rejection but Niche still did what she has to anyway. She got some new bandages and an ointment, and aided him.

“Don’t be angry with me,” he pleaded.

“I’m not.” Niche stated. Maybe now’s the right time to ask. “Are you?”

He shook his head. He couldn’t believe this was happening. He’s having a tantrum a while ago but here she is, still helping him out.

“Are you doing this all just because of the game? Or because you’re guilty that I was pissed a while ago?”

It was her turn to shake her head. “No. Even if you I didn’t get you angry, I’ll still do this. Besides, seeing that you’ll never stop playing even with your bad injury, I’ll just have to support you. I know how badly you want to win. So do it.”

Suddenly, tears welled in his eyes. “Thank you Niche, I’m sorry..” he sobbed like a child.

“Shh,” she said, smiling with her pointing finger placed on his lips.

It’s when Niche realized that she has gotten strong so as to not cry in this heated moment, and offer Gene the comfort he needs.

She embraced him.

“Is that another way of saying apology accepted?” Gene asked but didn’t pull away.

“Uh-huh. More like saying it’s okay. No harm done.”

“Thanks.”

“O siya, wala iyon,” she pulled away, “basta talunin mo iyong kalahi mo sa court ha?”

He lifted his head and shrugged. “Ang bitter mo kay Marco. Maybe you could be nicer to him?”

Iling.

“He’s broken and I hope you understand how it feels.”

Iling pa rin.

“Puro ka iling dyan eh. Why?”

“I do understand how he feels. But if you only knew..”

If he only knew I’m the one Marco is worked up about. Should I tell him?

“I know everything, Niche.”

She blinked. “You do?”

“Yep. So you don’t have to worry about it now because we already solved it.”
