Chapter 13: Thirst*

My throat felt dry. I couldn't sleep so well, thinking about his blood. I tossed and turned, pulling on my hair and gripping on my pillow in anger. I hated this feeling of not getting what I wanted. I felt as if something was taken from me while I was hungry. I felt like the predator I never wanted to be...

"Mom..." I whined in my sleep "Please help me... I don't know what's wrong with me" I curled into a ball "I've gone this long without it... I'm so hungry" in the background, I heard the door open with the scent of food following who walked in. I jumped out of bed awake and looked at the nurse bringing in a bunch of food that could feed a meal for 3 people.

"Good morning" She smiled at me and placed the tray of food next to the dresser beside me. Without thinking, I grabbed the tray without her permission and started munching on everything like I haven't ate in days.

"Oh my!" The nurse giggled and tested her flashlight to see if it was working "You must've been very hungry. I'm guessing that's why you collapsed?" I nodded, focusing on my food more than her "Your friends were concerned about what happened, but you look fine to me. Let's just run some test to make sure everything is okay" I felt her staring at me, making me calm down my eating, put my tray back where I found it, and hid under my blanket "Huh? Hey, are you okay?"

"Would you stop looking at me?"

"O-Oh! I'll try..." I lowered my blanket and let her look at my neck to see if anything hurt. By just eating the little food I ate, the pain had gotten better, but some was still there "Still seems to be a bit swollen since the last time I checked your neck. How does it feel for you?"

"I'll live" she nodded and checked my throat. I watched her looking straight into my throat until her eyes looked upwards, making her go pale and back away.

"Are those..?" I closed my mouth and looked at Xavier walking in with the group. Pikachu and a Frogadier jumped on my bed to check on me.

"Huh?" I looked at Frogadier in front of me "You're the evolution of Froakie... Did you evolve?"

"With all the training I did while you were asleep, yes" Xavier grinned. Trained? How long was I asleep?

"I see... Hey there" I smiled, petting the Pokémon's heads "I'm all fine. I just need to eat to get my energy up" Frogadier and Pikachu looked concerned about something "What? Are you panicked about what happened in the forest?" They nodded "It wasn't a big deal as it seemed. I'm fine, okay?" I smiled for reassurance and had them cuddle on me. I can still remember Dedenne doing this with me while we slept in my room...

"Huh..." the nurse gulped, but shook it off. She must've seen my fangs when they were only midway fully out, but because I ate, they shouldn't be all the way out like they were earlier when I was tossing and turning. She looked calm when the Pokémon came up to me without fearing what I was.

"How is she?" Shauna asked, leaning on the end of the bed.

"Oh, she should be good to go once she's finished eating. You had mentioned that she ate prior to coming here, correct?" She asked Tierno while Xavier put the tray on my lap. I went to work and hardly paid attention to what they were saying.

"Yeah, we all did. It was a decent amount of food too" Tierno explained.

"She might have a low immune system and a very slow metabolism. I'm sure it's gotten worse since she's been asleep for at least 3 days" I almost bit my tongue. Three days..? Again? "I want to run some test to make sure she's in a stable enough condition to keep following a set of hunters and crafters" Xavier kept her away from me.

"That's not necessary. She's fine. We're on our way to the Vampirism Academy. She'll be determined whether it'll be okay to join us or not"

"I see..." she kinda looked nervous "A-Are you sure?"
