Chapter 30: Trust*

I was asleep for what felt like a whole night. I rubbed my sleepy eyes and got up from bed, feeling a killer headache once I sat up "Agh! What the heck? Where did this headache come from?" I looked around the room, seeing it empty. Absol was on the floor, barking at me. He was the one that woke me up.

"What's wrong? Where is Xavier?" I used my arm to help me sit up, but felt a sharp pain on my elbow "Huh?" I froze when I saw a gauze wrapped around my elbow with a cotton between it "W-What in the-" I snapped my head at Absol, knowing it was barking for a reason.

I ran out the room to see that it was really early in the morning. The silence of the city was haunting, and a few people were running quietly through the streets with a face or horror, like they experienced something terrible.

"No..." I cupped my mouth "Absol, find Xavier!" Absol growled and ran off with me right behind him. I looked everywhere, seeing a few piles of ashes blowing in the air. No... No! No!

"This can't be happening!" I cried, terrified of what I'll see when Absol finds him. Up ahead was Lilith walking to the clothing shop with a disturbed look on her face "Lilith!" I yelled out. She looked up at me surprised.

"What are you doing up so early?" She asked me.

"What happened?!" I gasped, out of breath "What did you see?!" She frowned and looked around at the ashes around.

"My landlord had disappeared in the middle of our conversation..." she was shaking "She was getting at me for not paying rent on time and then poof!" She looked at me "I believe the same thing happened before a long time ago when a few people turned to ashes... It caused a panic all across Kalos. Why is this happening..?" I cupped my mouth and sobbed. My blood... "Serena? What's wrong?"

"I have to go!" I ran off "Hurry, Absol!" I used my sense of smell to detect Xavier's blood, but it wasn't anywhere I could smell. How could this happen?! Why would he do this behind my back?!

Absol brought me to the end of a cave that was companied by a building. As soon as I approached this building, the sliding doors opened, letting Xavier walk out with a cut on his cheek and a bruised lip. Not even the sweet smell of his blood was enough to calm my anxiety from sky rocketing.

"What have you done?!" I shouted, pulling my hair. He quickly looked up and widened his eyes "H-How could you do this?! Why?! Why would you dare to go and kill a leader without telling me?!" I sobbed hard "How dare you? How dare you take my blood and take advantage of me! S-Something was in that liquor stuff! I-I fell asleep! Y-You took my blood to... to..." I was freaking out on the spot, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Yannie... please. I can feel your perturbation from here" he reached out to me, frowning. I hissed and moved away from him.

"You promised!" I glared "You promised you wouldn't worry me anymore!"

"T-That's why I put you to sleep! I didn't want to worry you! I thought that I had a chance to defeat the leader on my own when you shouted out that demand!" Demand..? "Grant didn't touch me! At all! He couldn't..." he took a step closer. I hiccuped and moved away "His employee was the one that attacked me. I handled myself. I might have broke the promise of not worrying you, but I promised that I'll never leave you! I didn't want them taking you away! It was for your safety!"

"My safety!? Don't play dumb! You've been wanting to kill the leaders ever since we met! You saw a opportunity and used me! You took my blood to complete the job!" I cupped my mouth, extremely heartbroken "I can't believe you did this... You caused another panic across the region, and you broke our trust" he flinched and came up to me.

"Yannie, please! Just listen to me-" I slapped him across the face, making him fall back and hold his cheek bleeding out. I looked at my hand with his blood on it and started shaking.
