Chapter 14: Santalune*

I was breathing heavily in my sleep. I held my neck from how dry my throat was. I groaned and whined until I pushed myself awake. I jumped and looked around to see that the boys were still asleep and saw Shauna leaning on my bed to check on me.

"S-Shauna..?" She frowned at my eyes before handing me a cool bottle of water, in which I snatched away and chugged down without a break.

"You okay? You're sweating like crazy" she held my head "You're heating up!" She gasped and quietly went to the bathroom to get a wet towel to place on my head. I relaxed and laid back on the pillows, feeling better from the cold towel.

"Thank you... Shauna" she nodded and sat next to me, smiling a little before looking at the boys with me. Tierno was laying horizontal from how the bed was, Trevor was freezing without his blanket, and Xavier's shirt was raised with his leg sticking out his blanket, sleeping with his mouth open and snoring with a bubble coming from his nose. I snorted at their sleeping positions and eventually giggled with Shauna, trying our best to be quiet.

"Thanks for the towel. I had a scary dream" she nodded and handed me another bottled water "thanks..."

"No problem. Want to talk about it?" I shook my head and chugged down the water again "Oh hey, I'm sorry for how I treated you all day yesterday and even when we met. I get so frustrated when I'm confused about something... When you're the headmaster's daughter, you have to live up to people's expectations. I wouldn't want to embarrass him, so I've been stuck with the habit of being serious about everything"

"So the headmaster was the one that found and raised you?" I asked. She nodded "It's good that you got yourself a loving parent. It means you got to be the sweet girl I know right now, aside from your bad habit" she nervously laughed and looked at my eyes without contacts.

"Your parents... Which one is the vampire?"

"My mother"

"So your mom fell in love with a human. That's so strange to me" I smiled and looked at the ceiling.

"Well, my mom is down to earth. She's beautiful and even she loves humans. So it would make sense that she fell in love with one. Unfortunately my father was killed when I was discovered"

"I'm sorry to hear that" I smiled.

"Not to worry. I still have him in my memories"

"A vampire has a good memory, so I have no doubt you still remember him" I nodded proudly.

"My mother was devastated of his passing and made sure nothing happened to me. The vampires I lived with didn't approve, but they had no other choice. I was locked in a single room until my birthday. Many things happened and I had to escape"

"That story you told us before" I looked down.

"I'm a disgrace to both race. If anyone finds out about me, I'll be killed by both" she sat in front of me.

"From seeing that you handled a black eyed Vampire and a hunter, I don't really see a problem" my face exploded in a blush "What? Am I wrong?"

"You mean Xavier?! N-No! It's not like that at all!" I cupped my mouth, making sure the boys weren't woken up "I have more of my human personality than anything. I'm still not sure how I handled that vampire, but Xavier and I are friends and it happened naturally. I don't want to be a disgrace to anyone. I want to earn everyone's trust and hope to make this world better"

"Y, you're not a disgrace. You're unique. You're not as powerful, but I felt power in you from your intimidation. That expression you used on me scared the crap out of me the first time, and I'm sure you did the same to that vampire you attacked you?" I rubbed the back of my head, knowing it was true. I can only do that because I'm the princess. That's all "I won't tell anyone who you are. You got a Pokémon to like me... How is that not someone who has the biggest heart out of everyone? Your heart warmed Pikachu up to me so it can see that I'm more than a vampire... thank you for giving me a bond" I chucked.
