Laurance landed with a grunt, a cloud of dust accumulating once more as he almost barely stood on his two feet. Katrina let out a small cough, sheilding her eyes with her forearm."I think we should stop trying," she finally commented after watching Laurance attempt to climb the rocky walls of the ditch for the umpteenth time. "It's obviously no use. There's no way we're getting out of here ourselves." Laurance refrained with a sigh, turning back to face Katrina. He slumped against the wall of the sink-hole, propping himself right beside her.
He let out a weak smile. "It was worth a try, wasn't it?" Katrina returned the gesture, tilting her head to the side while she sat beside (Y/n)'s unconscious body.
"I guess so..." she trailed off, glancing to her right. (Y/n)'s body remained motionless, but breathing, on the dirt floor and leaned up against Katrina's shoulder. She clamped her sweaty hands together, keeping them in her lap. She let out a soft sigh.
"You know," Katrina began. "I never thought this was how I would end. Kind of a bitter defeat... don't you think? Dying in a ditch?" Laurance shook his head, a sympathetic smile replacing his usual lighthearted smirk.
"We won't end...not today," Laurance remarked, all the enthusiasm wrung from his voice. "But if we do... at least I'd be dying by your side." Katrina, too tired to smile, merely blushed, shaking her head.
"If this really is the last flirting opportunity of your life, you best make it count," she teased nonchalantly, pretending as if Laurance's comment hadn't made her heart beat ten times faster than usual.
'What game am I playing at?' she wondered to herself. 'Why am I encouraging him to torture my heart?' Katrina dismissed her thoughts. There was no way Laurance would oblige to her taunts anyways. No way at all---
"What? That was pretty good, you have to admit." Katrina, suddenly brought out of her thoughts, didn't respond right away, trying to hold back the heat that tried to force itself onto her cheeks once again.
"I've heard way better from other guys."
'Liar'.
Laurance's eyebrows creased for a moment before he let out a smirk, leaning his head back against the makeshift wall of the large ditch they still remained trapped in. Their efforts to call for help had been useless, the ditch was much too tall for either of them to climb and escape from...
It was no use.
On occasion, Laurance would try to power-run then, climb up the ditch's edges, only to end up failing each attempt. He had even tried to wedge both his and Katrina's swords into the dirt walls to try and pick-climb the contraption. Now, Kat stared up at the two swords that remained firmly rooted in the dirt wall across from her.
Unfortunately, that predicament had left the two of them sword-less.
"My, my, Katrina. You actually interacted with the opposite gender?" Laurance questioned, feigning a look of shock as he dramatically shook his head. "I don't believe it." Katrina rolled her eyes and deadpanned.
"Ha, ha, very funny," she chided with raw sarcasm. Her eyes darted to (Y/n)'s unconscious body (as if she'd wake up miraculously) then, quickly back at the ground. There was an abrupt pause in the conversation, neither Laurance nor Katrina knowing what to say next.
And then--
"If...this really is the end though--" Laurance suddenly grabbed Katrina's left hand, shifting to look at her and she resisted the urge to scream, "--then, you're beautiful face is the last sight I'd want to see..." Katrina's eyes widened as she pursed her lips tightly.
