"...You need to what?" You let out a pleading smile, standing in the doorway of Katrina and Laurance's room with both fists clenched at your sides.

"Please Laurance?" you begged, watching as he stood, unconvinced, by the door to his shared room. "I just need a few minutes." You paused before adding in, "or a few hours." You beckoned over to Ruby who stood near you, her hands in her pockets as she leaned against the opposite wall. "Ruby will keep track of the time...right Ruby?"

"Yeah," she replied with a nod of her head, letting out a yawn shortly after. "I'll make sure she wakes up if things take too long."

"That's...that's not the problem," Laurance muttered in a hushed tone, turning back to look inside the room before stepping out into the hall and shutting the door behind him. He glanced back at you and Ruby, his tired blue eyes lined with a hint of melancholy. "I'm...okay with anything if it means saving Garroth. He's my best friend and I know he'd do the same for me..."

"But?"

"But..." Laurance looked to the side. "You think you'll be able to meet Enki in your dreams? We've experienced a bunch of crazy things since arriving on this island. But this..."

"Seems farfetched? I know," you reaffirmed with a sigh. "But I'm confident that this will work."

"And if it doesn't?"

"Then... I want to at least be able to say I tried." Laurance stared at you, his gaze blank and observing. He crossed his arms over his chest.

And then, he nodded, a small smile on his face.

"Fine. Come in," Laurance said, beckoning both you and Ruby inside the room. Ruby stepped in just a moment before you, walking over to where Katrina lay sound asleep in bed. You followed behind, shooting Laurance a look of gratitude before making your way over to Ruby.

"Gosh, she's asleep," Ruby noted aloud with a sigh. Laurance shut the door behind him, letting out a chuckle.

"She went out pretty quick. I haven't been able to sleep since..." Laurance trailed off, silently referring to the events leading up to the imp incident. "I've just been reading to pass the time."

You looked to your far left and spotted a lit gas lamp that illuminated its yellow glow across the darkness of night which seeped in through the room's windows. Beside it was a make-shift cot where you presumed Laurance usually slept. On one end of the cot were a couple of pillows and the book he'd been reading propped right on top of them. On the other end, a warm-looking duvet. The sight of it made you long for sleep.

"Hey, Katrina," you started softly, sitting on the bed and lightly shaking her shoulder. She lay there, snoring softly with the blankets up to her chin. "Please—"

"WAKE UP!" Ruby hollered into Katrina's ear before roughly shoving her off the bed. Your eyes widened and you gasped in shock as Katrina fell to the floor with a 'thump'.

"Ow..." Katrina croaked out slowly, her voice muffled. You watched as Laurance quickly moved to help her up off the floor. You remained frozen, sat there on the bed and confused.

What in Divine's name had just happened?

"Well, your reaction sure was underwhelming," Ruby muttered, her eyes slightly wide with amusement. "I was expecting you to shout back."

"Shut up..." Katrina retorted weakly, rubbing her eyes as Laurance brought her to her feet. He held onto her arm to prevent her from stumbling as she swayed from side-to-side, her tired eyes peering lazily at you and Ruby. "Why are you even here?"
