The moon amongst the stars shone extra bright as if spotlighting Rory. She lifted her head and thought about how it looked all alone up there. One lonely moon...and one lonely woman. Rory prepared herself for this new adventure.
"Get in the car, girls,"

Yawning, a tired Haeven stretched in her car seat. Confused as to her location, she called out to her mom.
"Good morning, baby," Rory cheerfully greeted.
"Morning, momma. Where are we goin'?"
"We're going to a place called Seattle, Washington," Rory answered, feeling shame for the insufficient answer.
"Why?"
Rory wanted to be more direct, and not beat around the bush. Haeven was getting older and pretty soon, she'd catch on to it. In fact, her little inquisitive pre-schooler was smarter than Rory gave her credit for. "We're going to Seattle because I got a new job there,"
"Are we gonna live there?" Haeven questioned.
"We are," she didn't want Haeven to worry, so she added, "But it's okay, it's going to be real fun! You'll meet new friends, get to go to tons of parks and even see a really tall tower!"
This failed to delight her. "Where's daddy?"
*****
Miles and miles down the road, an incoming call alert came up on the car. It was Jess. Rory knew he was going to be mad. Well, the night was her only time to escape. She had to get out of there. Her relationship was failing...her life was going to fail too if she didn't leave. Rory ignored the call.
"Mommy, when's daddy coming?"
Rory made the mistake of lying to Haeven earlier. She told her that Jess was going to meet them later. Stupid, stupid Rory. She told herself. "Actually, Haeven, daddy is probably not gonna come up. He has a lot of work to do."
Haeven's lips immediately began trembling. "I want daddy!" She began sobbing.
This was only expected of a small child who was taken away from her father. Rory kept trying to justify her actions but knew that what she was doing was bad...really bad. It has to be done. She kept repeating. I cannot stay with an emotionally abusive person. I just cannot. Rory's heart hurt. She didn't want to separate her children from their father.
"Daddy!" Rosalyn began crying.
Adley, following the others, wailed too.
Rory tried to tell them that it was going to be okay. They'd forget about him, right? After a couple months or a year? They'd move on. It was going to be the first several weeks that would be the worst.
*****
Rory got several calls every hour. Jess, Lorelai, Luke. They all tried getting ahold of her. There were texts too. "Are you okay?" "What's going on?" "Where are the girls?" She finally shut her phone off.
That night, when checking in to the hotel, it hit her. What if they call the police?
