Although Chan had been the one who asked if the two of you could talk, once you were both seated on the plastic chairs, by the table outside the convenience store, he remained silent.

Chan simply stared at the distance, as if contemplating on whether or not he should say anything.

Which is why you decided to cut through the silence first.

"So... it's almost been a year since we last saw and spoke to each other"

The words that leave your lips have a bitter sound to them and Chan could feel the mix of anger, sadness, confusion and frustration that you were trying to hide.

"Sorry- I..."

Chan mentally curses at himself for not being able to finish a single sentence since earlier.

You hated it.
You hated how, no matter what Chan did, you couldn't get mad at him. You hated how you couldn't hate him.

You hated how quickly you decided to swallow up all of your sadness to properly converse with him because you missed him.

"Chan. It was in the past. And I get it, you got busy with college so... it's cool"

"No it's not"

"Why are you here?"

Chan could only stare at the table as you two spoke but at the sudden change of topic and tone of your voice from cold to something gentle, he looked up and saw the same shimmer in those eyes like before.

A small chuckle escaped his lips and he sighed with relief.
Even though it was indirectly, you decided to let it go.
At your simple change of topic, Chan could feel that you had already forgiven him for ghosting you.

And those were one of the reasons why he loved you.
You were a true friend.

"Yah! Chris!"

Chan snapped out of his train of thoughts and playfully glared at you.

"I said call me Chan"

"Well you zoned out. So yeah... why are you here?"

"I couldn't sleep. You?"

You chuckle at Chan's words as memories came flooding back in your head before you answer

"Same"
