When school ended that day, I was standing with Kyra at her locker, laughing at something she had said. From the end of the hallway, I saw Theo and Ryder walking towards us. My lips pulled up into a smile as Ryder said something to Theo, looking dramatically involved. Theo on the other hand only rolled his eyes at him.
"Violet has got an eye on Theo," I said randomly, giving Kyra a look.
She chuckled. "Violet has many eyes to keep them on a lot of boys."
"So, tell me this," Theo said as soon as he reached where Kyra and I stood, "How long have you and Luke been together?"
His question startled me and I blinked at him. Luke and I? Together? Now where did he even get that idea? Kyra closed her locker, turning to look at Theo, a thousand questions spinning in her mind, no doubt. Ryder on the other hand, for some reason, looked a little impressed as he beamed at Theo.
We started to walk towards the entrance of the school, no one saying anything. I think I was too shocked to say anything. Theo frowned, "What?" he asked, "Why are you all looking at me like that?"
"I don't know about them; I'm just wondering where you even got that idea?" I shrugged, "We are not together."
"Really?" he asked, surprise coloring his tone.
"Really," I nodded, "We are best friends – been that for years now."
"I thought..." he trailed off, frowning.
I waved him off as if it was no big deal. It was not a big deal, "Many people think that."
He took one look at my face and then slowly shook his head, "No, that's not it," he sighed, "You just have not recognized it yet."
Now it was my turn to frown. "Recognized what?"
"That it's not friendship the way he looks at you and gets jealous whenever I talked to you today," he chuckled, "That's something else."+
"Don't even bother," Kyra sighed, sounding impressed, "You can never get that into her thick skull."
He pointed a finger at Kyra, a wide grin on his face, "So you already know?"
"The only two people who don't know – or act like they don't know are Caroline and Luke."
"Okay, stop," I rolled my eyes in annoyance, "That's not true. I don't have feelings for him, and he doesn't have feelings for me. He has a girlfriend if you have already forgotten about her."
"Oh," Theo's eyebrows raised and he looked as if he was liking the fact that something was getting interesting for him, "And who is that?"
"Sierra Wilton," Kyra said, "Violet – you know the girl who we think has her eyes on you? Yeah, her best friend."
Theo whistled lowly, "Luke has a girlfriend?" he sighed, "Now that makes things a lot more complicated."
"You think?" I looked at him in disbelief, "Don't let Sierra hear you say that Luke and I have feelings for each other. She already hates my guts enough."
"Your life is a daily sitcom."
"Don't I know it." I sighed, shaking my head, "I did everything to try and reassure Sierra that I wasn't after her boyfriend. I even started to stay away from Luke – but guess what? She still hates me. Won't stop glaring at me.
"Um, why would you stay away from Luke because Sierra feels insecure in her relationship with him?" Ryder looked at me like I was the crazy one.
"I don't know. A lot of things that I do, don't even make sense to me these days," I shrugged, "I just wanted to assure her I wasn't a threat, you know?"
