Engagement has to be one of the most important steps to take in a relationship. It is a promise of tomorrow. A promise that they have a tomorrow. A promise that they have each other. A promise to themselves that they will never cease to love each other.
I remember my mom once telling me that when a couple gets engaged, we can see it in their eyes how much they love each other, how much they mean to each other. They get engaged only when they are so in love with each other, she told me. Now looking at Liana's older brother Jay and Emilee, his new fiancée, I don't doubt even a word of what she had said to me.
They looked at each other as if they could read each other's soul with just a glance. The way their eyes sparkled made me jealous. I wanted someone to look at me the way Jay looked at Emilee. I watched with a heavy heart, Jay look at Emilee with love as I wondered to myself if I will ever find someone worth loving. He leaned in a little and said something softly to her and a big smile immediately lighted up her face as she nodded and said something back to him.
Jay's smile got wider as he bent down a little and placed a chaste kiss to her forehead, only for the moment to be spoiled by a big group joining them, their friends I realized later.
Looking away, I thought of getting myself a drink. Food and beverages were served all around the party hall. People were chatting and laughing as they enjoyed the awesome party. There were kids running around the hall, giggling as they chased each other; but as awesome as it was, I couldn't enjoy the party. My eyes were glued to one person – well, maybe two people – making me furious with each passing minute.
Luke was still standing with the she devil who was still twirling a curl of her hair and was still batting her eyelashes up at him with a constipated smile – at least to me it looked so – on her face. Her hand was resting over Luke's arm as she spoke about something. And the most infuriating part here was that Luke seemed like he was enjoying it as he listened to her intently.
"What's with the 'Someone just pinched me hard' look?" Theo asked as he came to my side with a drink in his hand.
"I personally think that this look is 'I am so going to kill someone real soon' look," well that was Kyra; she knows me better than anyone else does. She was the best.
I rolled my eyes at the both of them, not even bothering to provide them with a reply and looked at them with a mock stern look, "Is it even legal for you to drink here?"
"Ah, sarcasm," Kyra rolled her eyes back at me, "Our drinks do not contain alcohol."
"Or maybe a little bit," Theo added sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.
Kyra snorted looking at him and then turned back to me only to see my amused smile, "Whatever. Him drinking alcohol is not my concern. I'm not drinking anything."
"Right," I chuckled, giving her a look which she purposely overlooked and turned to Theo.
"Okay, Mr. Welkins, not to get off topic here," she snaked her hand around my waist and pulled me closer to her, "What do you think Care here should do instead of standing here and glaring holes at Luke and what's her face?"
"Well," Theo crossed his hands against his chest and pretended to think as he cast a curious glance my way, "Miss. McCann, I, for myself, think that she should give up her dumb ego and act on her feelings."
"What feelings?" I snorted, shaking my head at him.
"Ahm, did you feel a burning sensation in the bottom part of your stomach?" Kyra looked at me intently.
Theo cut me off before I could speak with his own question, "Did you feel like you were about to get a migraine?"
"What?" I blinked looking at the both of them like they were crazy.
