Opposites attract - Dally Winston

Chapter 8:

I walk groggily back to the Curtis house with Pony. "It's ok Gracie. They'll all forget about it by next week" he says reassuringly as he swings an arm around my shoulder.

I groan in response putting my hands up to my face. "Stop lying Pony. How could anyone ever forget that?" I ask while kicking a pebble. 

"I'm sure something else will happen and you won't be the talk of the school anymore" he says rubbing my shoulder. I sigh and try to believe his lie "thanks Pony" I say gratefully.

We reach the Curtis house and as we walk in we see the entire gang watching TV except for Darry who was in the kitchen baking what I assume would be a chocolate cake.

They all look at us and look back to the TV all saying there hello's. As if they were all a puppet their heads all shot back towards us. Or should I say me.

"Why are you wearing Pony's shirt?" Soda asked confused "and why is your hair all wet?" Steve asked also confused "and why does it look like you pissed yourself?" Two-bit added in "what's with the ginormous bruise? Or is that just your second smart ass brain?" Dally spoke eyeing me.

Pony chuckled as he went to go sit on the couch with Steve and Soda leaving me in the spotlight alone. I was about to answer all their questions when Darry came out from the kitchen with a chocolate cake in his hands. He looked at me smiled and looked back at the gang. He then quickly shot a look back at me.

"What the hell happened to you?" he asked equally as confused as the rest. He put the cake down on a near by coffee table and sat in a chair.

I sighed as I sat on the floor by Two. "It was a rough first day" I say grabbing Two-bit's beer from his hand and taking a swing of it.

Everyone gave me a look of surprise "drinking? Wow it must have been a rough day" Two said with a shocked tone.

"Rough? You call falling and ripping your shirt on the first day of school rough?" Pony said laughing. "Wait what happened?" Soda asked now even more intrigued.

I took a deep breath and told them what had happened. 

"What here is good to eat?" I ask Pony as I set my tray on the counter looking down at all the food options. 

Pony was beside me and was getting some carrots and putting them on his plate when he answered me "I don't think any of the food here is good, but the carrots and the soup ain't that bad." He took a bowl of soup off of the top counter and placed it gently down on his tray.

"Alright" I say taking a bowl of soup to. The soup must've just been made because it was almost burning me as I placed it on my tray. I took a banana off of the counter and placed it on my tray too.

"You got everything?" Pony asked I nodded my head and we began to turn around to go find a spot to eat.

As soon as I turned around I tripped and fell into a wall. It all happened so quickly yet it felt like it was taking forever for it to happen.

When I tripped over my own feet I went flying forward. My head hit first directly into the hard wall the rest of my body then slamming into it as well. My burning soup went all over my arm and pants causing my left arm to get a little burn. 

My shirt caught on to a metal wire that was on the trash can causing my shirt to rip and completely come off leaving me in my bra. 

As I opened my eyes I saw everyone staring at me laughing. The cafeteria was crowded. It was as if the entire school was there. Actually the entire school WAS there all laughing at me. I hadn't realized that my shirt had come off so I quickly got up.

The cafeteria broke out into even more laughter. I look around at everyone bewildered and saw my ripped shirt hanging from the metal piece of the garbage can. My eyes widen and I quickly grab it and turn around. I try putting it back on, but I put my head through the wrong hole and I got stuck.

Pony tried to get me unstuck, but to no avail. He grabbed my arm while I was still struggling to get un-stuck from my shirt. I was pulling and pulling and my gripped slipped off my shirt and I ended up punching my self in the face. 

I could hear the roars of laughter grow louder as I finally get unstuck. Pony was leading my to the bathroom trying to cover up as much of me as possible. We finally cleared from the cafeteria crowd and Pony brought me to the nearest bathroom.

He took off his shirt and handed it to me "it's going to be a bit big, but it's better then walking around a school in your bra" he says trying to keep his eyes off me.

"Thanks Pony. What about you?" I ask looking at him confused. "I have an extra shirt in my locker that I can wear." he says with a smile as he started to walk off.

The gang was laughing historically by the time I finished the story. Everyone expect for Dallas. I just assumed that it was because he didn't like me, but his look was different from the hard cold looks he wears all the time.

"Oh boy! So you basically gave all the school a good look of your boobs!" Two hollered as he stood up from where he was sitting.

"Yeah basically" I say as I hide my face in my hands. "Oh come on Gracie! Pony's right. Something new will happen in the school and everyone will forget about it" Steve says leaning forward from his spot on the couch to give me a gentle pat on the back.

"You said you got burned?" Dally asked in his cold hard tone. I nodded yeah and rolled up the long loose sleeve to reveal a medium sized red blistered piece of skin.

"Come over here Gracie. I'll get you some ice" Darry says getting up from his spot on the chair. I oblige and get up to follow Darry. He opens up the freezer and grabs a pack of frozen corn and a pack of frozen peas. 

He hands both of the bags to me "one for the burn, one for that nasty bruise you have on your head" he says with a smile. I return the smile "thanks Darry" I say with a smile. "no problem." he responds as he walks back into the living room.

*The next day*

School was really bad. Everyone was teasing me, bulling me, and giving me weird looks. I have a new nick name it's "Gracie the desperate stripper." 

Pony also wasn't at school. So it was a lot tougher to get through the school day with out him. 

After it was over I went over to the Curtis house to visit. 

When I got there I saw everyone but Pony "where's Pony?" I asked confused. Steve and Soda looked up from their game of cards "sick. Real bad" Soda says placing a few cards down causing Steve to frown a bit.

"How was school?" Soda asked politely "not that great?" I responded collapsing onto the couch beside Two-bit.

The gang and I hand a good long talk and it was beginning to get dark. Everyone got up and started to put their stuff away. All but for Dallas and I.

Soda put on his flannel and Johnny put on his jean jacket. Dallas and I looked at them then each other confused.

"Where is everyone going?" I ask confused "dinner" they all respond at the same time.

"oh" Dallas says getting up from his chair "your not coming" Steve said making Dallas become flustered.

"You two are watching over Pony while were gone" Darry said with an amused smirk.

My heart began to beat real fast as I heard Darry speak those words. My eyes widen and my jaw dropped.

"Your leaving me hear with him?"

"Your leaving me hear with her?"
