It wasn't easy to tell Bob that I didn't want to go to lunch with him. I hate making plans then bailing last minute, but the gang said to do it and I trust them with every thing I have left. Plus Bob did beat up Johnny real bad.
That was one of the reasons ending the lunch date with Bob was so tough. I knew he was gonna pick on me, but I couldn't bare to see Johnny get hurt again.
I'll admit when I told Bob he wasn't that cool about it in face he said, "so you'll sleep with every member in the Curtis gang, but you won't go out for lunch with me?" I was taken a back by what he said. I mean I saw it coming I just didn't see it coming out so bluntly.
To avoid punching him in the face I walked away, but he didn't stop following me through out the rest of the day.
When he saw me in the hall he made sure to run into me making me drop all my books. He would also talk shit about me with his pathetic soc friends.
I was sitting quietly in my seat my butt starting to hurt from the hard chairs. I looked impatiently at the clock just waiting for it to hit 3:09.
When it did I quickly got up out of my seat, gathered my stuff, and walked out of the class.
I saw Bob once again in the halls and he made sure to bump me, but this time I didn't drop my books.
I got to my locker and put in my lock combo. I put away my stuff and put my homework in my bag.
It was so close to the weekend.
I walked outside and began my walk to the Curtis house.
On my way when I was walking awfully close to a lake, I tripped on a rock.
My instincts kicked in and I swung off my bag instantly causing me to fall face first in the water.
The water was shallow and my head hit a rock. It stung, but at least my bag was safe.
I got out of the refreshing water now soaked, and with a giant cut on my forehead. I couldn't see it but I could feel it. When I ran my hand across it I pulled it away instantly my breath hitching in pain. I looked down at my hand to see blood.
I thought of going home and changing first, but the Curtis house was closer and I was freezing. I'm sure Pony or Soda would lend me a dry shirt. I don't need to change my pants because they aren't wet from the lake.
I arrived at the Curtis house and once again just walked in with out knocking. I used to knock all the time, but every time Soda told me to just come in, so I did.
I wasn't surprised to see the entire gang here. It was a Thursday. Thursday is everyone's break day, that's one of the reason's why I like it so much.
When I entered everyone looked up from what they were doing to greet me.
Everyone's eyes widened when they saw me. I guess they haven't gotten used to me coming here drenched and bruised after school.
"Gracie what happened?" Pony was the first to speak up "was it Bob? I'll beat the living shi-" Dally began to say before I interrupted him "it wasn't Bob" I say dropping my bag to the floor.
"Then who was it?" Soda asked concerned and confused "I got into this huge fight with the lake-- it won, but boy did I get a few good hits in" I say with a giggle. I saw everyone relax "Soda could I borrow a shirt? Mine's a little drenched" I ask politely. He nodded his head yes and got up from the couch he was sitting on "someone should probably get your cut cleaned up" Soda said.
Dally got up from the couch "I'll do it" he says heading to the bathroom. I followed.
I followed Dally to the bathroom where he told me to sit on the sink. I did as he said and hoped up on the counter of the sink.
Dally opened a cabinet and pulled out a first aid box. There were multiple drawers and cabinets that it could have been in, but it seems like he knew exactly where it was. Like he used it lots.
He set it down on the space beside me and opened it up. He looked around in it till he found what he needed. He grabbed a bottle of Isopropyl, and poured some of it onto a cotton pad.
He slowly brought it up to my cut. When it hit I felt a sting and my hands tightened on the edge of the sink. "I bet you gave that lake one hell of a fight" he says gently dabbing it on my wound.'
I chuckled "yeah. I sure did" I say with a smile.
It went silent for a moment again and he was done cleaning my wound. He reached back into the first aid box and pulled out a band aid.
He was opening it up when he spoke again "if someone does ever hurt you... tell us..." he says avoiding eye contact.
I slightly smiled "I will" I say softly. With that he walked out of the bathroom.
I got up off the sink and walked out. I was greeted by Soda with a white t-shirt in his hands. He handed it to me "it might be a bit big on you" he says kindly "that's ok. Thanks Soda" I say giving him a smile. He returned it before heading back into the living room. I went back into the bathroom to get changed into Soda's shirt.
I came out feeling better and warmer. I was still chilled and had goosebumps on my arms, but it was better than being soaking wet.
I stayed for dinner that Darry had made. It was chicken, corn, and mashed potatoes. It was delicious
I decided it would be a good time to head home considering it was almost dark out, and I didn't want to walk home in the dark.
I said my goodbye's to the gang and began to walk home.
Once I got to my house I opened the door to see my grandpa at the table with a look of sadness on his face.
"grandpa whats wrong?" I ask curiously. He looked up from his glass on the table. His eyes were red and puffy "grandma and I went to the hospital today. You know how she has been having those stomach pains lately" he says softly, his voice shaking a bit. I nod my head yes. My grandma has been complaining about her stomach hurting ever since I got here, and I remember saying she had a doctors appointment this week.
"Well shes real sick Gracie" he says tears falling from his eyes.
"Grandma has stage four stomach cancer. Her rate of survival after one month is less then five percent."
My heart dropped.
