I was woken up by Mrs. Melissa yelling for all girls 12-17 to be ready that there was a man who was coming to interview for adoption. I didn't get my hopes up because she usually makes me go somewhere else so that I wouldn’t be adopted because I was a worthless trouble-maker.

I got dressed in a Sleeping with Sirens sleeveless and a pair of black ripped skinny jeans with a sports bra and matching boy short underwear. I don't wear a lot of makeup so I just put on a little bit of chapstick. When I started to walk downstairs Mrs. Melissa glared at me.

“You are not going to be around when he comes, do you understand me? He is a very important man who is offering a significant amount of money for this adoption and we wouldn't want to waste it on someone like you.” I rolled my eyes causing her to backhand me, making me glare at her.

“I understand I’ll be outside like normal, don't worry.” I headed back upstairs and grabbed the thickest book I owned which happened to be a Harry Potter book. I grabbed my homemade bookmark and headed outside like I said I was going to. I sat on the wooden swing and opened the book immersing myself into the fantasy world.

I had been reading for a good while when I heard footsteps approach me, “hi.” I placed my bookmark when I left off and closed it looking up, “hello?” he gave me a small smile, “why aren’t you in there with the rest of the girls?” I sighed, “because I’m not meant to be adopted I’m not worth it.”

His face twisted to an expression I couldn’t quite read, “that can’t be true.” I shrugged, “what are you doing?!” I looked at Mrs.Melissa and cleared my throat as I looked back at Jeffery, “excuse me.” I headed back inside, heading inside the small office, “what did I say?” I shrugged, “not to be around that I’m not worth adopting.”

She nodded, “so why were you still here then?” I sighed, “I was outside like normal. No one ever goes out there, I guess he’s different.” she narrowed her eyes at me, “get out of my sight.” I stood from the uncomfortable chair I had sat in heading right back outside, “I’m sorry about that but maybe you should go talk to someone else she’s such a troublemaker.”

He gave her a tightlipped smile, “I want to interview her.” my head shot up to look at him, “but sir there is-” Jeffery interrupted her, “I want to interview her, not one of the others.” Mrs.Melissa glared at me but gave Jeffery a beaming smile, “very well follow me then.” We followed her into the interview room and I sat across from Jeffery.
