I jolted up from my bed with a slight gasp as the memories replayed through my head. I looked over at my clock to see that it was 12:00. I fell back against my bed while letting a hand run down my face with a quiet sigh. I'd only been asleep for an hour.
I knew I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep at the time so I went down to the living room and turned down the volume while I flipped through the channels. I stopped when I saw The Dark Knight Rises was on. I wasn't a big fan of Batman. I only really liked this movie because of the Joker.
Half way through the movie I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I looked up to see a tired Jeffrey. He asked, "hey what are you still doing up?" I sighed, "I had a nightmare" he sat next to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, "do you want to talk about it?" I just shook my head and looked down.
I wasn't ready to talk about my biological parents just yet he lifted my face up and said, "you don't have to tell me if you don't feel comfortable with talking about it." After that he told me, "try and get some sleep." I nodded, "ok" and started heading to my room.
I wasn’t able to fall asleep so I sat up and grabbed my guitar heading outside and quietly played, occasionally singing along with the tune I was playing until I saw the sun beginning to rise. I returned my guitar back to its case and headed back downstairs to the kitchen.
I looked in the fridge wrinkling my nose when I noticed what little food he had in there and it was mainly takeout containers, some of them looking like they were past the eating period. Luckily I found a carton of eggs along with a package of bacon.
I grabbed two pans, setting the bigger one on the backburner for the bacon, lighting a low flame letting it heat up a little bit before adding the bacon. I searched the cupboards for salt and pepper letting out a quiet, “aha.” when I finally found it. I quickly added the bacon to the hot pan before adding butter to the smaller pan.
I finished plating the eggs right as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs so I balanced one of the plates on my forearm while I balanced the other two on my hands. I quickly grabbed the orange juice from the fridge along with two glasses, placing them beside the plates.
He looked shocked, “you didn’t have to do this.” I smiled, “I just wanted to do something to thank you for getting me out of that place.” he hugged me, “well let’s dig in.” We ate quietly but I finished after him, causing him to grab the plates and glasses, “go get ready then we’ll head to the store oh and Daneel, Jensen’s wife, will be joining us.” I smiled, “alright.” I headed back to my room to get ready for the day.
