Really quick before we start, I wrote this because my prom was Saturday going into Sunday, and I thought it'd be cute.

Highschool AU

-Virgil's POV-

I'm Virgil, a junior at SHS. I get to go to prom this year; usually, I wouldn't want to because I have terrible social anxiety, and school dances are social gatherings. The only reason I want to go is because... I want to ask someone...
The only problem with that is, I'm anxious about asking. The person I want to ask is perfect in every way: good at art, singing, dancing, and so much more.

In case you're wondering, no, my crush is not a girl. His name is Roman Prince, a fitting name considering how many girls seem to fall for him.

Prom is one month away; if I don't ask him soon, he might be taken. How do I ask? With a poster? With words? Will he even say "yes"? I don't even know if he's gay or not...

"Virgil!" I hear my science teacher, Mr. Johnson, yell at me. Apparently, I was dozing off in all my anxiety. "U-uh, yes, sir?" I say quietly. "Please pay attention to me when I am speaking. Now, as I was saying..."

After the lecture, the teacher turned us loose and gave us our worksheets for types of rocks. "Virgil, please come up to my desk." he says. I wish I could hide in my hoodie, but there's a rule against wearing hats and hoods inside school.
"It's not like you to not pay attention. Are you feeling alright?" Mr. Johnson asks. "W-well, physically, yes. I'm sorry; it won't happen again." I apologize.

"I don't mean physically." he says simply. While we were talking, I could see Roman, who has almost every class with me, look up at me occasionally.
"U-um... I guess I'm just a little stressed, that's all..." I admit. Before he could ask any more questions, the bell rang and I grabbed my things and left.

-Roman's POV-

Seeing Virgil Midnight get called up to the teacher's desk was surprising; Virgil usually pays attention in science, and is pretty good at it, too. I only head some of what they were talking about, but what I did pick up was that Virgil is stressed about something.

I don't talk to him often, but I would like to. He's really handsome, but if I tries talking to him, everyone would think lower of me, especially if I started flirting with him...

I'll have to wait until History (4th Period) to talk to him, because he's not in Choir with me.

After practicing our songs for the upcoming concert, the bell rings and I head to history class. I happen to walk right up next to Virgil, and he notices. He looks at me and his eyes widen. "H-Hi Roman..." he says shyly.
Virgil had always been shy around me, but he's shy around almost everyone; he's an introvert.

"Hello, Virgil. Are you alright? You seemed stressed out in Science." I say as we maneuver the hallways. "U-um... Yes... No? I don't know..." he says, hiding his face. He almost runs into someone, so I have to pull him closer to me so he wouldn't get hurt. He tells in surprise and moves his other hand away from his face to look at me.
He was blushing, which was so cute that it made me smile. I played it off by saying, "You should really watch where you're going."

We enter our history class and sit down. I really want to know what's wrong with him.

<two weeks later>

-Virgil's POV-

Prom is in two weeks, and I still haven't asked Roman... I really hope he's not taken... At least it was a Saturday today, meaning I have plenty of time to think.
A poster would bring too much unwanted attention to both of us, so that idea's out the door. Texting him would seem like I'm too scared to say it in person, so I'm not doing that.

Maybe I just have to ask...

Okay, I'll ask him before school on Monday.

•••••••••••••••

I wake up and get ready for school. This is it, I think to myself. This is the day I ask Roman to prom with me.

When I get to the school, I find Roman looking at the art in the display case in the front of the school. "H-hey, Roman." I say, hopefully loud enough. He turns around and smiles slightly as he says, "Good morning, Virgil."

"Uh, so do you... Have a moment?" I ask him. He raises his eyebrows and says, "I believe so, why?" I breathe in and say, "Can we talk for a moment?" he blinks and then says, "Er, yes, of course."
We go into the locker rooms and he asks, "Is something the matter?" "Uh, yes and no. It's not like I'm mad at you or anything like that; I just... Have a question...?"

"Go ahead." he tells me. I'm starting to get anxious, but I breathe through it. "Well, I was wondering... Would you... Would you go to prom with me?!" I close my eyes in anxiety.

-Roman's POV-

Virgil just... Asked me to prom. Like, as a date. He seems scared about my reaction, which is understandable; something like that takes a lot of courage to ask. I smile and say, "I thought I'd have to go alone."
He opens his eyes in surprise and says, "Y-you'll go with me?!" I nod and he smiles brightly. "What a way to come out of the closet, don't you agree?" I joke.

He laughs and I grab his hand and kneel down. He looks at me in wonder and I say, "It would be my honor to be your prince at prom, good sir." before kissing the top of his hand.
"Can I have one of those on my lips?" he asks sarcastically. He was smirking, I was smirking, and we were both happy. "I don't see why not." I say before doing as he asked.

We kiss until the bell rings, and then we both head to our first class. We had Band together, and we both sat down when we got our instruments. A girl comes up to me and says, "Hey, do you have a date to prom?"

I exchange a look with Virgil and say, "Yes, I'm sorry. I'm already taken."

I didn't think it would be this long heh. I'll start the second part. Hope you enjoyed!
