I look up to my mom after tugging on her pant leg.
"What is it Cora-Goso?" Mom looked down at me and I simply pointed to the doorway.
"Look!" If you looked at just the right angle, you could see the force field, the shimmering veil protecting our house. Mom went towards it to further inspect it, she reached he hand out as if she was about to touch it.
"NO!" I yelled. She lowered he hand.
"What is that Cora-Goso?" I knew exactly what it was, a security blanket, so that what happens to the kids on the projectors doesn't happen to us. Not that I was capable of saying that. Mom just nodded and went back to gathering our scraps for dinner.
When I awoke the next morning it was to shouts of protest. I crept down the hall to see what was happening. Five of the big men in white uniforms where there, along with a sinister looking man in a pressed suit. The man looked my direction and nodded to his men. They came towards me and picked me up by my upper arms and thrashing legs.

Five of the big men in white uniforms where there, along with a sinister looking man in a pressed suit. The man looked my direction and nodded to his men. They came towards me and picked me up by my upper arms and thrashing legs.
"MOMMY!!! DADDY!!!!" I screamed at them, my Mom crying into my Dad's shoulder and Dad trying to keep from crying. Violent screams erupted from me for as long as I could think, tears streaking my face. I screamed past the house, down the road, I screamed and screamed until they drugged me and I was put to sleep.
The next time I woke up it was in an all-white room, they told me where I was, and that I was to design weapons for them, starting with the force field, which they would use in the Games, they couldn't have tributes escape again. I simply nodded.
Ever since that day the only words I am able to say are look, no, Mommy and Daddy. I can't even say my own name. My vocal cords are sealed in the 24 hours before I lost my parents, my ears on an endless scream track.
I'm not surprised when I'm reaped. It was bound to happen sooner or later, even though I'm the Capitol's secret weapon, I'm expendable, we all are. They probably also think I could be some pretty good entertainment, they've watched me grow up they know what I'm capable of.
Dows, 3's escort asks my name, I just poke the male tribute and he says it for me. Everyone thinks I'm crazy, but they know better than to bug me, messing with the Capitol's personal weapons person isn't smart.
As me and my fellow tribute step on the train I think of something my Dad told me when I was little; 'Cora-Goso, it means bravery in an ancient language, it's a big name to live up to, but always remember Cora, bravery isn't something we are born with, we create it within ourselves, in times of desperate need our true self comes forth, our bravest, strongest, smartest self.'
