Malcolm Crews – Canada

Thump-thump.  Thump-thump. Thump-thump. My heart can't stop beating miraculously quick  with an unimagineable rate of speed. I can feel it too as my legs  become feeble. My arms feel like noodles and my stomach is queezy. But  yet there is this sense of anxiety where I feel that I'm ready. I  actually have a shot and will do my best to win.

I rise on to my  pedestal. The sense of salt water seeps into my nose. The movement of  waves cleanse my hearing. I close my eyes, loving the arena. Ever since I  was a kid I've loved the ocean. My mom had always told me I needed salt  water to live.

Behind me I see an  awkwardly shaped island. And in front of me is another wierd, but  precisely, shaped island. They represent something.... Wait, that's  North America behind me! And Europe is in front of me! That means I'm in  the Atlantic Ocean! Glad I paid attention in Geography Class!

I look around and see  other tributes from around the world. Beside me is the squinty eyed girl  from China, and the other is Conner from the U.S. I feel bad for that  kid. He's a therapist for his friends when he secretly needs it the  most. It must suck.

Ahead of me is the  cornucopia. It's full of supplies. I know I'm going to need some. I'm  sure Zara and Sophia will be okay as well, assuming they're good  swimmers by their body features. I think those two are pretty good  allies, which is why I chose them out of everyone else.

The gong sounds and the  bloodbath begins! I dive off my platform and let my limbs stride myself  to the cornucopia. My feet are kicking with a harmonious rhythm while my  arms stretch out and come back to my side in a wheel formation to let  the water glide me to the supplies of my survival.

With each motion, I get  closer and closer. And soon I can see the silver blades of several  weapons shine through the water. But of course the cornucopia shines the  most, being the largest of it all.

I finally reach my  destination and search for a weapon of my liking. I see an axe but I  couldn't care less for it so I toss it aside. But then I feel a  slithering pole touch the tips of my sandy toes and I instantly know  it's a spear. I glare down at it's beauty. It's sharp tip and  well-shaped shaft. It's a well made spear. I know this is the weapon I  need.

I pick it up, letting my fingers wrap around its body. I then find a simple pack and grab it.

"I can't find the stick  anywhere!" The chinese girl, Kaida, shouts. Anger floods through her  voice. I'm guessing she was referring to a spear. Or maybe something  else......

"That's what she said." I  murmer. Laughter fills my state of mind. I couldn't help myself, I had  to say it. It was just dead on. Giggles fill the air coming from my own  lungs.

"What are you laughing about?" A boy questions me. I think his name is Quinn. But I do know he's from New Zealand.

"Long story." I sigh of relief, my reign of laughter finally ending. I didn't think I was going to laugh that much!

"Well too bad I won't be  able to hear it." He threatens, holding his sword up. Oh big whoop. He  can't beat me, his posture is too stiff and unaccurate. He's just a  wannabe.

I shove my spear into  his gut and I hear his stomach churn as he spits out blood. I rip it out  and watch as he lies in the salt water, letting his body float away  into oblivian.

I dive into the water,  continuing my journey. The blood washes off into the ocean as I continue  further. All I'm doing is trying to find Zara and Sophia, and I believe  they would head to North America than Europe.
