Alessandra Armando: District One
My ears ring, desperate for a moment of silence. Sharpe and Samuel have been head to head arguing since we made our camp. Night and day they fight over the stupidest things. For instance last night they were fighting over who's turn it was to take watch; even though it was Greyson's turn and they knew it was. I hear their angry voices rise up again. Oh great here we go again. "No! We are going North! I saw tons of tributes going North! We could kill more tributes if we go North!" Samuel shouts. "No! East! I saw a lot of tributes and that scrawny old hag from thirteen go east!" Sharpe screams back. It's a miracle no one has found us yet. With all of this screaming might as well put a sign out in front of the cave that says 'tributes inside come kill us.' "Well I don't want to go East and find nothing but stupid bats!" says Samuel. "Well I don't want to go North and-" "Enough" I scream. "I swear you two are going to be the reason why were lying on our death beds in a week." They shut up, but I can see the hatred in their eyes for each other. Then the ground rumbles. A horrid growl comes from the burrow behind us. With shocked eyes we turn to see the beast behind us. A massive rabbit emerges from the burrow. Its giant horn is sharpened to a point, its teeth stained with crimson blood. The beast lets out an ear-piercing roar. "You idiots! You probably woke the thing up!" Greyson screams. Shocked and full of panic we grab our weapons and sprint out of the cave. Really? Out of anything to put in this dang arena the game makers put a giant bloodthirsty bunny? Why not bring in a giant man eating chinchilla as well? I think as we run away from the beast. The narrow strip of land is slick with mud. I look over the side. Sharp, jagged, rocks and death await. The mud is extremely slippery. I hold my breath each step hoping I wont end up dead. Samuel tries to shot the massive creature, but his aim is off.
Instead of its head the arrow punctures its wing, making a huge gap. At least the beast can't fly now. We finally make it off the muddy land bridge and into a small cave. The cave just happens to be the camp of the District 4 lovebirds and their allies. Their eyes widen when they see me and my group in their cave. Unfortunately the beast followed us here and is at the cave entrance! We all sprint out of the cave through the other opening. Minnie, the girl from four, trips and falls. The beast got her and ate her whole. The beast just finished her up when the boy from 4 races back to where she was. He takes a knife out of the pack he was carrying, and starts jabbing the thing. He has the effect of a mouse trying to stab a human. The beast skewers him through the heart with its razor sharp horn. Then it shook him off showering us with his blood. The beast is dangerously close to us! I can hear its heavy breath as it engaged its speed and is starting to charge at us. Custer is running right in front of us, and man is he slow! The strip of land is too narrow to run around him. The beast was gaining on us. It's now or never. I can either throw Custer off and save my allies and me or let the beast kills all of us. I take Custer by the shoulders and throw him off the edge of the bridge and into the rocks below. Now I run faster and everyone follows. The beast is catching up to Sharpe, and in one swiftmovement it scratches her. Blood pours out if her back. I throw one of my precious knives at the beast, and it hits its stomach opening a deep gash. The beast stumbles back in pain. Greyson runs and picks up Sharpe, and slings her over his shoulder. Right when I see the wounds the beast mad I know there's no hope in saving her. The wounds are very deep, she has lost a lot of blood, and she is already starting to bass out. "You have to win," she croaks out. Sharpe takes her last breath, and just like that she's gone. We leave her on the bridge, and run to the nearest cave.
"We need to get rid of this thing before it takes one of us," Samuel says. "No duh Sherlock. But how are we going to do it?" says Greyson. An awful sucking noise comes from outside the cave. I look out and see that the beast is sucking the blood out of Sharpe's lifeless body. "Guys I know how we can get rid of the beast!" I say. "How?" they say in unison. "The beast is attracted to blood so how about be lure it off the bridge." The old lady from thirteen is running towards us. Greyson shoots her easily and she falls down. I take her bloody corpse and go onto the bridge. In the distance I see the beast charging at me. It's getting closer and closer until I can see its bloodthirsty eyes. When it's just about ten yards away throw the bloody corpse off the edge of the bridge. Like I planned, the beast jumps after it and plummets to the rocks and its death below. I watch .as the rocks puncture the beast in all directions. It's finally gone. I am a genius.
