DID NOT HAND IN.

     "Welcome to Canada." Frigus smirked.

I cursed under my  breath. This beaver was gigantic, probably the size of my house back at  home. Its tail was terrifying too. Rather than the flat tail that normal  beavers had, this beaver's tail was curled up into a tight ball. It  would definitely hurt to be hit by it. Looking back on it, I realize  that it wouldn't hurt at all to be hit by the tail. You would be dead  before you felt any pain. The teeth looked sharp too.

"How do you know  when you've given a Bidoof too many Rare Candies?" I asked. Megan, Perdu  and Wren looked at me like I was insane. I guess they never had a  childhood. I shook my head. "When it looks like this." I said, answering  my own question.

Whatever, we still  needed to figure out how to deal with this monster. Wren raised her  hockey stick menacingly. Perdu was busy having an anxiety attack from  all of the tributes surrounding us. And Megan was cowering behind Wren. I  walked over to Megan. Maybe she had some ideas about how to defeat the  Mutt.

"Megan, in the  books, how do people kill the Mutts?" I asked her. As far as I knew,  they didn't. The Mutts killed you. But maybe Megan knew of one instance  where they didn't.

"In the first book,  no one does. Katniss kills a few, but Cato ends up getting mauled by  them. In Catching Fire, they survive by getting out of range of the  monkey Mutts and the Jabberjays. Someone else is mauled by the Mutt in  another sector though. In Mockingjay, Katniss kills the crocodile Mutts  by exploding their guide to the pods in the Capitol." Megan replied.

"So..." I said, desperate to come up with ideas.

"So you don't kill the Mutts, not unless you have explosives." Megan replied. "So we are screwed."

"Do you think the beaver would stop chasing us if we got out of Canada?" I asked her.

She shook her head.  "I mean, it might but we would have to run a lot. And then it would  probably kill all the other tributes, and we would have to deal with  something a lot worse than this beaver."

"Damn." I said. "Well it's been fun." The reality hadn't quite set in that this beaver was probably going to kill me.

"Yeah I guess." Megan said with a weak smile. The beaver glanced over at her and roared.

"Megan!" I yelled, coming up with an idea. "Your braces!"

"What about them?" Megan asked, immediately trying to hide them.

"Flash them at the  beaver. It doesn't like the colors. Or maybe it doesn't like the  shininess. But just smile at the beaver." I replied.

Megan nodded and  smiled in unison with the beaver, who devoured the boy from Russia.  Russia was now the first country with all of their tributes gone.  Aleksandr didn't have any family, at least I don't remember any. He had  the girlfriend, but that was it. Maybe she could restart now. It was  either that or she would spiral into depression like Aleksandr. I tried  not to think of that second option.

Then the beaver  roared angrily. Megan's braces were definitely doing their new job. If I  was to survive, this would, pretty much, be their only use. I really  hoped that Megan didn't die. I had known Megan for a while now, even  though until a few days ago she was Magma instead of Megan. Maybe what I  was dying, if it killed me, it would save her.
