Interview: Odessa Black

The announcer calls Odessa's name and as a result nerves flutter through her like little butterflies.

Odessa glances down at  her dress. The fabric of the long dress shimmers in more colors than  Odessa could name. The only word that could possibly describe this dress  is rainbow. Her dark black hair is curled perfectly, not a hair out of  place.

The new interviewer,  Helvetica DeVil, eyes Odessa up as she makes her way to the wooden  stool. Just the sight of Helvetica sends shivers down Odessa's spine.

"So, Odessa, what is your strategy for the Games?" Her voice made me shrink back by the edge of the stool.

"My- my strategy it-it's  a secret," Odessa stutters out. Helvetica gives her a look that says,  Sure it is. She doesn't believe Odessa has a strategy, obviously.

"How far do you hope to make it?" Helvetica questions.

"I hope to win,"  Odessa's voice is steadier now but still trembling a little, "Or at  least get into the final eight." Yeah right, Helvetica's glance at  Odessa seems to say.

"What makes you a contender to win?" She inquires.

"I can do things....When  I'm angry," Odessa's voice strengthens, "I'm can do things that no one  knows I'm capable of." Helvetica nods, but in Odessa's opinion the  gesture is more condescending than acknowledging.

"Who are the biggest and smallest threats?" Helvetica asks.

Odessa is determined to  make up for her terror at the beginning of the interview. "I think the  biggest threat would be Sharpe since she's from Two and the smallest  threat would be Minnie since she's a little...unique," Odessa tries to  describe Minnie kindly. She is finally gaining a little confidence in  the interview.

"Why do you want to  win?" Helvetica's voice makes Odessa feel like someone has poured a  bucket of freezing cold water down her spine.

"I want to win because....because I am a child, and I deserve to live but I've barely been given a chance."
