Once the tributes have made it to the surface, they realize they don't have much more room than underground; they have surfaced into a small house.
All the doors are locked.
So they wait, hide in various rooms of the three-story flat, and hope for news of their friends and foes - as well as a little rest - over the night; some of them haven't slept in days.
That night, two more faces appear on the ceiling of each room.
First, Minnie; the unbalanced girl from Four. Her mouth is shut and straight, as if she daren't show any emotion, but her eyes betray her, showing a profound sadness that only she would have been able to explain.
If she had lived.
Her face is chased away by that of the girl from Seven; Felticka. She contrasts almost perfectly with Minnie, bright and bubbly as if she didn't quite grasp she was possibly losing her life at this, but still paralyzed with the fear of losing her sanity - if she had any to start with.
Now she'd lost both.
The remaining four tributes shudder; there are almost none of them left. Today could easily be the last day.
Azure crawls out from the inside of an oven, and thanks goodness nobody thought of turning it on, in case there were tributes in it; he would rather not burn alive.
Liz slowly sits up, and stretches her neck; turns out that hiding by lying in a bathtub isn't the most comfortable way to avoid your enemies. But it is effective.
On the third floor, MeMe is sitting on a bed in what looks like a child's bedroom, if it wasn't so eerily clean. She has not hid away like the other tributes; it would hurt her joints, and besides, the faster they find her, the sooner she can kill them and go home - not this artificial place, her real home, back in the Victors' Village.
Custer lets out a small cheer; while the others have doubtlessly been thinking about the Games, he's been productive for once in his life - his mother would be proud. He is too, as he looks down at the contraption that reaches from the door to the basement and covers the whole floor, except for a small square where he stands. His feet are sore; the stylists never gave tributes shoes, and his feet are bloody from the floor of the caverns. He looks at the small multi-coloured blocks on the ground and grins. "I hope you all step on Legos."
There are voices above. The finalists look up and see the Gamemakers arguing again.
"Melo, this is finals! We need some change. Besides, you already vetoed Brielle's race track!" Fillius argues.
"They're aboveground, that's enough!" Melodica counters. "And don't call me Melo!"
"Fine, you are not mellow." Fillius concedes. "It's still a final, Mel."
They tense, expecting Melodica to snap and kill her co-worker. Instead she just groans. "Of a fight to the death, not a reality show."
Fillius groans now, and just abandons. "Fine, go ahead, fight."
So the four tributes do.
