Samuel Stone: District One

Sam felt strange. Why  was he sad that Finn kid had died? It didn't make sense to him - but  nevertheless he was sad and he only had the young girl, Minnie, to keep  him company. She was odd though; she liked to stare off into space, she  giggled to herself and since Finn had died, she barely even looked up,  let alone spoke.

Weird kid. Very weird kid.

The two of them wandered  around in silence. Ever since the eyeball things appeared on the wall,  Sam had noticed Minnie had not only been silent but he had a good mind  to know that she was upset as well. He noticed the tear, even if no one  else did.

Sam shook his head and mentally chastised himself. 'Stop it Sam, this is why you don't get involved with chicks.'

More time passed and  they say Alessandra and some guy Sam didn't know the name of. They crept  past in silence, not wanting to start a fight before they had restocked  supplies. Yep, they were heading for the cornucopia. When they arrived,  once again, it was all quiet...too quiet. Sam was on his guard  instantly and he kept one gun aimed on both of the main tunnel entrances  as he gathered up food, water, ammo, knives and various other things.

After being in the main  room for all of three minutes Sam was getting uncomfortable and had the  urge to leave. It was unsafe here. "Come on," he said to Minnie. She  didn't reply so he shrugged. "Or stay. Whatever."

He turned to leave and  surprise, surprise, Minnie followed. It wasn't long before Sam saw a  girl up ahead, she had purple hair and a bit of a twisted look in her  eyes. She was a Capitol girl. Stuck up, violent, trained. Sam smirked,  he could take her. He'd have to be sneaky about this, he'd have to-

SNAP.

It sounded as though a  giant elastic band had broken nder some unforseen pressure. Of course,  it gave their position away because it made that capitol girl look up  and spot them instantly. Her reaction was to grab her nearest weapon and  threaten them with it, to which Sam did the same. The two contenders  ran at each other and when they were close Sam winked, "sup baby?" The  girl snarled but Sam ignored it, "ohhh animalistic. I like it."

That did it and the two  of them sprung into action, both jabbing at each other with knives and  fists. Hair was pulled, blood was spilt, lips were busted. Neither could  gain the advantage until, of course, the floor disappeared. It happened  so quick, no one could have expected it.

Sam and Violet lost  balance and fell in different directions. It was like the ground had  come to life for with every small groan and shake that came from beneath  them, a new crack would appear and get wider, trying to swallow them  up. Violet was back on her feet first and, unlike Sam had expected her  to, she charged for Minnie.

The floor behind the  oncoming collision had fallen on a slant and it plunged down into the  dark, probably to death. If Violet reached her, the two of them would  disappear for good... Minnie was unprepared and once again, Sam was left  with a split second choice. Of course, his Hero complex won out...and,  and it would have been what Finn wanted.

So, not giving himself  much more chance to think he got up and charged at Violet. They collided  with a sonic boom and then, they fell. The last thing Sam saw was the  worried face of Minnie peering over the edge as he disappeared into the  abyss.

Sam and Violet slid  further and further down this concrete slope. The walls around them were  falling in and moving and breaking. Dust and grit was in Sam's eyes,  his back was having its flesh scrapped off from the sheer force of the  friction and the effect of sharp stones on skin. Both knew that soon  this slide would come to an end and it would come down to who could hold  on the tightest.
