Our hands were still linked,
curled under each other.
With so much chemistry in our hands,
you’d think this would be natural,
but it wasn’t.
I could tell for sure that we were both blushing,
both looking away and not saying a word.
We started to walk away from the festival venue,
hands still closely linked.

“Will you come back?” I asked softly,
hoping he would say yes.
“I don’t know,” he responded.
“I see,” I paused, “then I guess… this is goodbye?”
There was a painful silence after that.
Hatori stopped walking,
and his grip on my hand tightened.
He didn’t want to let go and neither did I.
But we had no choice.
