Ally's POV
I came out of the bathroom, brushing against my wet hair dry with my towel. I drop my dirty clothes in my bag and sat down on my bed.
After I left Liam's house, Lauren picked me up and invited me to live with her in her apartment. The two of us reconcile and grabbed dinner at a restaurant. I really hope Liam doesn't take this resignation too serious. But it was part of the plan.
I grab my phone from the nightstand and scroll through the notifications. I miss a phone call from Liam, and he sent me a text message: Hey. Can we chat?
I swipe the miss call and call him. I press the phone against my ear. Three rings pass before he picks up. "Hello," he greets hoarsely. My eyes shot up, remembering that it was close to midnight. He was probably sleeping.
"Oh, sorry," I said. "I, um, I forgot that you sleep at ten. I'll call you later."
"Wait," He said. "Wait. No, I'm up." I hear a thud and him moving around. I hear a creak on the other side.
"Why did you call me earlier?" I ask.
"Can you come to my office tomorrow morning so we can discuss your resignation? I really want to talk about it," he says.
I shake my head. "I'm sorry, Mr. Payne. But I begin work tomorrow."
"What time? I can adjust my schedule," he says.
I shake my head. "Sir, please understand. This is my decision. I wish I could stay there, but you know that you can't help someone who doesn't want to be help?"
"What time do you start tomorrow?"
"Twelve," I answer.
"And what time do you end?"
"Nine,"
"The day after then,"
"I work this entire week," I said. "I'm sorry. I can't really talk unless you come over. But I suggest you don't. My manager, I heard, is very strict. I don't want to get in trouble. That's a bad impression on the first day."
"I'm not going to stop until I get to talk to you," he says. "I will talk to you at one point."
I nod my head. "I'll see you, sir," I said. I hang up and set my phone down on the nightstand. I rest my head on the pillow and lift my entire body on the bed. Lauren enters the apartment and removes her jacket. She hangs it on the hook on the wall. She plops on her bed and spreads her arms and legs.
"Today has been a tiring day," she sighs. "I miss Niall too. My baby and I have been too long apart." I sniff and watch her lips quiver. "Ally, don't you ever get the feeling like it's time for you and your guy to get something...done?"
I shake my head. "No," I answer, recalling all the past lovers that I never let stood a chance because I was so picky or I just never felt anything. To be honest, I haven't been feeling it for any guy I've encounter. I thought I would so by now. But I hope my everlasting love is somewhere around the corner.
I ask, "Do you feel like you and Niall are getting serious?"
"Maybe," she says. "I want to talk to him, but I feel like it will put pressure on him. Should I do it?"
"A girl who hasn't dated for a while is not the best person to go," I said.
She turns her head and looks at me. "I know, but it's you, Ally. I feel like you give out pretty good advice on stuff you haven't experienced yet. Just tell me what you would do," she says.
