Chapter 28

It took five days, but Kath was finally being discharged from the hospital. She felt stronger, she could talk normally and kiss her boyfriend without it causing her pain, but her arm was still in a sling and she was being given strong painkillers to take at home that was safe for her to have whilst pregnant. She'd been active on social media for the past two days since she started to feel truly stronger, doing Q&As with fans when DJ wasn't with her just to pass the time and ensure them all that she was okay. It would take another couple of months for her to be fully healed, but she didn't care how long it took. She knew she was lucky to be alive, that her baby was a true miracle. Nobody besides doctors, DJ and Noah knew about the baby still, although it was hard for Kath to keep it from Miles when she came to visit her in the hospital they wanted to keep the baby to themselves until they had surpassed twelve weeks of the pregnancy when their baby was even safer.

"Mommy, are you hurting?" Noah asked, watching as DJ helped her to get her shoes on. Noah hadn't been in the room when a nurse helped her to get dressed, she didn't want him to see her wound at all. He'd seen enough already and didn't need reminding of her wound whilst it was still healing.

"No, sweetie, I have the special pills, remember?" Kath said and Noah nodded his head, fiddling with the bottom of Kath's hoodie that he was wearing. Leo was in Kath's lap, she hadn't been without her old toy ever since Noah gave him to her to keep her company - she even took the toy with her when she had tests done and scans.

"And the special pills for the baby that Daddy bought," Noah said and Kath shared a smile with DJ, and she nodded her head at Noah.

"Yeah, sweetie, so your little brother gets some extra help." She said and Noah cuddled into her left side.

"I love you, Mommy."

"I love you too, sweetie... now, let's go because I can't wait to leave this place!" Kath encouraged and she watched DJ lift Noah down from the bed and he helped her up from the bed and down into the wheelchair that the porter was holding onto but Noah giggled as Kath pulled him up into her lap with her good arm, so the porter was pushing them both and DJ held onto Kath's good hand - the one not trapped by a sling. "I'm sorry you had to push back starting your dream job because of me," Kath said, looking up at DJ, but he just squeezed her hand and shook his head.

"You shut up right now with that crap," DJ warned.

"Swear." Noah scolded, making Kath laugh breathlessly and DJ cracked a smile, ruffling his hair as Kath gave him a kiss.

"Sorry, bud." He said, before turning his attention back to Kath. "But I don't care about the job, Kath, I really don't... you need someone to help you out for a few days at home, and of course, Jason understands - you're his best client." DJ teased gently, making her smile. "Don't apologize, none of this is your fault and I'm guaranteed that job whenever you're better," DJ assured her and she slowly nodded her head, but she hissed with slight pain at the movement of her head.

"And I keep you company so you're not lonely." Noah volunteered and Kath smiled wider, kissing his head.

"I know, baby, I can't wait to spend so much time with you!" Kath exclaimed, making him beam.

Kath was helped into the passenger seat of the car by DJ, Noah strapping himself into his car seat in the back and he smiled as Kath managed to turn around in the car quite painfully, but she was holding Leo out in front of her towards him. "I think it's time he goes back to you, baby." She said and Noah took Leo from her, hugging him to her chest.

"Are you sure, Mommy?"

"I'm extra sure, baby, he's kept me company in the hospital but now he can go back to you! I have you and Daddy to keep me company now." She said with a smile, before turning back around and she let out a shaky breath from the pain turning around as that had caused, DJ placing a hand on her thigh in comfort as he started to drive back towards her house.

"You okay?" He asked quietly and Kath nodded, holding up two fingers where Noah wouldn't see and he nodded, knowing instantly that it was her pain scale. "You can have a nap when we get home, baby girl." He said simply, but Kath didn't protest - she was exhausted, even though she hadn't done much.

"Daddy makes good hot chocolate, Mommy! That always makes me tired for naptime." Noah said and Kath smiled, looking over at DJ.

"Oh, yeah?"

"I have many skills," DJ said with a grin and Kath laughed, placing her hand over his on her thigh.

"Love you." She whispered and DJ smiled, giving her thigh a gentle squeeze.

"Love you too." He whispered back.
