Kath sat on the edge of her bed, staring at her own reflection whilst her best friend brushed through her hair, helping her to get ready for the mystery date - DJ had told her not to dress fancy, so it made her wonder what he had planned.

"You don't look overly excited about this." Her best friend said, her voice soft and trying to be playful - trying to feel out the situation, but Kath's expression didn't change. She looked distant, distracted, but not in a good way. "You do want to go out with this guy, right?" The question made Kath snap out of it slightly.

"Of course I do, Liz."

"Then the least you could do is tell your face that you're excited!" Liza teased, but she sighed when she saw the tears lining Kath's eyes

"Then the least you could do is tell your face that you're excited!" Liza teased, but she sighed when she saw the tears lining Kath's eyes. "It, um... happened again, didn't it?" She guessed and Kath hesitated before slowly nodding her head, playing with her fingers, scratching at the nail polish she'd only just put on.

"I'm just glad no press was there this time," Kath mumbled and Liza sighed, giving her a hug from behind.

"Does DJ know?" Liza asked and Kath quickly shook her head.

"No... it's not exactly something to dump on someone when their four-year-old son is around or when he's tattooing my arm." Kath said and Liza bit her lip, trying to think of what the right thing to say was as she turned off the hair straighteners, finished with Kath's hair - she was officially ready for her date, but she looked moments away from breaking down in tears.

"You don't have to tell him today, or even on date number two... but it might be good to have someone besides me to talk to about all this," Liza said, sitting beside her on the bed and putting a hand on her thigh and Kath slowly shrugged her shoulders.

"I... I'll see how things go." She breathed and Liza nodded.

"Good! Now, smile. This is your first proper date in over a year, I want you to have fun!" She demanded and Kath couldn't help but crack a smile as Liza nudged her playfully.

"I'm not gonna go out there with the intention of being miserable!" Kath defended herself and Liza went to say something, but the sound of a knock on the door made her stop and she squealed instead, shaking Kath by her shoulders.

"He's here and he's early!" Liza exclaimed, Kath pushing her hands off of her.

"Yeah, he is, so you stay up here and don't come out of my room and you can use your own key to lock up once we're gone," Kath said, smirking and Liza pouted.

"I can't peak at all?"

"No!"Liza pouted more, but she didn't move from the bed as Kath rushed out of the door and down the steps, opening the front door. "You're earl-!" She cut herself off, seeing that it wasn't DJ at the door. It was a police officer. "He's dead, isn't he?" Kath guessed because it was always her first guess and the officer shook his head.

"No, you left your wallet at the station last night." He said, holding it up and Kath sighed, taking it from him - she'd been searching for it all morning.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome, ma'am." He said, heading back to his car and Kath went to shut the front door but gulped when she saw DJ at the end of her driveway, a look of shock on his face as he approached her.

"The police are here? Is everything okay?" He demanded to know, his worry clear in his voice and Kath nodded her head, shoving her wallet in her jacket pocket and her phone in the other.

"Yeah, just... wanting to clarify something from my statement about the break-in on the bus, nothing serious." She lied, but she was relieved that it seemed to work and he let out a long breath.

"I was scared as shit something had happened." He admitted and Kath couldn't help but crack a small smile.

"That's cute, you're worried about me." She teased, nudging his leg with her foot and DJ instantly blushed, swatting at her and he chuckled when she laughed.

"Yeah, yeah. But we have to go, I have us booked for where we're going at eleven thirty and it's already eleven!" DJ clapped his hands to get her to hurry up, doing it playfully and he smiled as Kath rushed to get her shoes on before joining him outside. She didn't bother locking up the house since as Liza was still inside.

"Can I know where we're going?" She asked, getting into his car with him and he grinned, shaking his head.

"Nope." He said, starting to drive and he laughed as she groaned dramatically - she'd never been a fan of surprises.

Her jaw dropped when she saw where they were heading, DJ pulling up in a parking space.

"Ice skating?" Kath breathed, looking back at him and DJ chuckled.

"It was Noah's idea... if you wanna do something else, we can-"

"No, I want to. I haven't come here in years!" She exclaimed, DJ matching her grin.
