It was less than an hour later when they heard Noah waking up, starting to play with his toys - he knew not to come and wake up his parents right away anymore because they'd been up a lot with Dylan, but the baby never woke Noah up. That was because the baby very rarely cried, only when there was a storm because it would be loud.
"Breakfast time." Kath breathed, getting up from the bed and she started to pull on her clothes.
"I've worked up quite the appetite," DJ said playfully, laughing when she swatted him, smiling.
"I missed your laugh." She said, running her fingers through her hair and DJ looked over at her again.
"I'm sorry... I'll be fine once we get some real sleep." DJ said, but he kissed her back when she leaned down to kiss him first.
"Come down when you're dressed," Kath said, before walking out of the room and she checked on Dylan first but she cooed when she saw her daughter was lying awake in her bassinet. "Oh, baby girl... how long have you been awake for, huh?" Kath lifted her up, shushing her as she held the baby against her chest. Dylan curled into her almost immediately, recognizing her Mom's touch. "Let's go get your big brother." She whispered, kissing the top of her head and she walked down the hall into Noah's bedroom. "Hey, monster."
"Mommy!" Noah greeted with a smile, rushing to hug her but he understood that she couldn't hug him back properly because she was holding Dylan.
"Hey, cutie. Breakfast time!" Kath encouraged and she watched as Noah went back to pick up Leo from his bed before he followed her down the stairs and into the kitchen. "What would my big boy like for breakfast today, then? Cereal or pancakes?" Kath asked.
"Cereal," Noah concluded. "Mommy, I hold Dylan for you!" He volunteered and Kath smiled.
"Go and sit at the table, then," Kath said and Noah rushed to the table, sitting in one of the padded dining chairs and he held his arms in a cradling position like he'd been told to do, his eyes on his baby sister as she was laid in his arms and Kath adjusted how he was holding her a little bit so that Dylan would feel more secure. "You got her, baby?"
"I got her, Mommy," Noah assured her and he giggled as Kath kissed his head.
"My good boy." She praised before walking away to make herself, DJ and Noah some breakfast - she'd have to eat her own breakfast quickly, since as Dylan would need feeding soon.
"Hello, family!" DJ announced as he came into the room, smiling when he looked over at his son holding Dylan. It meant a lot to see him holding her when he'd been so afraid to for the first week of her life. The incident in the bathtub was the first time he'd ever held his sister because he'd been forced to hold her in order to save her from drowning.
"Hi, Daddy!" Noah said with a smile. "Look! I'm holding Dylan." He said proudly and DJ chuckled, joining him at the table.
"I can see! You're such a good big brother." He praised, pecking Kath's lips as she came over with bowls of cereal for Dylan and him and then a drink for Noah and a bowl of cereal for herself.
"Come to Mommy, princess. Your big brother has to eat!" Kath kissed Dylan, cradling her as she sat at the table and the three of them all started to eat together. "I'm gonna go through to the living room to feed her," Kath said as she finished off her cereal.
"That's fine, I'll clear up in here," DJ assured her and Kath smiled, pecking his lips before leaving the kitchen with Dylan, heading to the living room so she could be comfortable as she nursed her daughter. "Okay, monster, I want you to go upstairs and get those teeth brushed! Daddy will be up in a few minutes to inspect how good you did! Go, go, go!" DJ encouraged and Noah giggled, grabbing Leo from the chair beside him and he rushed up the stairs and to the bathroom. DJ was done clearing up from breakfast in less than a minute, but he found himself pulling the business card out of his pocket - he'd taken it out of the nightstand before coming downstairs. He took a deep breath before dialing the number.
"Hey," DJ said, making Kath jump and she turned her head to see DJ in the doorway of the living room.
"Hey! Don't let Noah see you, you'll get in trouble for disturbing us." Kath teased and DJ forced a smile.
"I just got a call from Jason - I have to go to the studio, something about the renovation. I don't know how long I'll be." DJ said and Kath nodded her head.
"That's fine, I was gonna take the kids out to the park - I'll invite Liza," Kath said, sharing a kiss with him. "You heading out now?"
"Yeah, get it out of the way."
"Okay, I love you."
"Love you too." DJ forced a smile, but the guilt was already eating him alive as he drove not in the direction of the tattoo studio, but towards a Starbucks where he'd arranged to meet Jasmine.
