"W-What?" He choked out, Kath letting out a sob.
"I didn't know, I swear... they ran a blood test and it came back positive - I can only be two weeks into it because we never..." Kath trailed off, tears running continuously down her face but she let out a sob as DJ reached and held onto her hand. She gripped onto him, her nails digging into the back of his hand but he didn't react to it.
"But it hasn't been long since Dylan... i-is that safe?" DJ questioned.
"I don't know! That's why I'm so fucking scared... and Dylan won't even be a year old, she still needs me so much and we're bringing another baby into this..." Kath turned her head as there was a knock on the door, a doctor neither of them recognized stepping into the room. She looked around the same age as Karla and she had a comforting and understanding expression on her face.
"Hi, Kathryn. My name is Doctor Monroe, I just got your file from Doctor Greene. How are you feeling?" She asked and Kath shook her head.
"Is my baby gonna die?" Kath asked, terrified and DJ held onto her hand tighter, trying to comfort her and she just clung onto him impossibly more.
"Well, I'll be honest and say that this pregnancy is going to be monitored very closely and as a 'high risk' pregnancy. It is very soon to be pregnant again after the birth of your daughter, but that doesn't mean that this baby can't be brought into the world happy and healthy." Doctor Monroe said softly, but she let out a sigh. "But, there is a higher risk of a miscarriage and early delivery, which in itself can lead to many problems... I would understand if you asked for a termination." The doctor said and Kath couldn't help but sob, burying her head into the pillows and DJ blinked back tears, looking back at the doctor.
"Do we have time to think about it?" He asked and she nodded her head.
"Of course! There is no rush on this, Kathryn, it's a huge decision." The doctor assured them, but it was clear that Kath was too emotional to speak. "I'll come back in a little while, okay?" She said, shaking DJ's hand before walking out of the room, shutting the door quietly and DJ moved so that he was sat on the bed with his ex, their fingers laced together and he ran his fingers through her hair to try and soothe her.
"I'm a bad person." Kath choked out and DJ burst out laughing.
"Yeah, okay. And your next joke?" He said, Kath, continuing to cry.
"I don't even know if I want this baby!" Kath sobbed. "I-I do want another baby, but not this soon! It's in danger and we have Dylan..." Kath couldn't stop crying.
"Kath, look at me." He said sternly, his eyes locking on hers. "If it makes it easier, think of it as nothing more than a couple of cells... because that's all it is right now. It's smaller than the head of a pin, it doesn't even have a heartbeat yet - it isn't a baby right now." DJ said and Kath slowly nodded her head.
"What about you?" She asked and DJ sighed, playing with her fingers.
"I... I don't know if now is the right time... it's dangerous for the baby, it's dangerous for you and I... I don't know what I'd do without you." DJ admitted and Kath sniffled, tears rolling silently down her face.
"You ditched your date with Jasmine to be here." She breathed and DJ rolled his eyes playfully.
"Kath, I'd ditch every date for the rest of my life if you wanted me to - whenever you need me, I'm gonna be right beside you whether we're arguing or not," DJ said honestly and Kath slowly sat up in the bed, locking her arms around him and he hugged her back, kissing her cheek as they pulled away from each other. "We don't have to decide right now... we can even go home and think about it more, okay? Don't let yourself feel so much pressure - I'm scared too, but we can do this." He said and Kath sighed, running her fingers through her hair.
"Can you promise me something?" Kath asked and DJ nodded his head, playing with her fingers.
"Anything."
"Go out with Jasmine again soon? Don't ditch her again... I want you to be happy and if she makes you happy, you should be with her." DJ leaned down, kissing her temple and he helped her to lie down on the bed again, keeping her hand in his.
"Get some sleep, Kath." He said softly, comforting her as she slowly fell asleep.
