"Mommy...!" Noah's eyes were wide, but DJ was quick to pull Kath to a nearby bench, making her sit down and he knelt in front of her.
"Kath, talk to me. Are you in pain? What do you feel?" DJ asked seriously, his hands shaking as his eyes locked on Kath's. She was close to tears, her hands on her lower stomach.
"I-I'm cramping... DJ, the baby... the baby!" Kath finally let herself cry and DJ let tears run down his cheeks, shaking his head and he leaned up to kiss her forehead, leaving his lips there for longer than necessary before he scooped her up from the bench.
"Noah, get in the car," DJ ordered and the little boy rushed to the car, climbing into the backseat and Kath let out a sob as DJ set her down in the passenger seat, leaning over her to fasten her seatbelt for her.
"I'll ruin your car." She mumbled through her tears.
"Shut up," DJ said simply, kissing her forehead again before shutting her door and he made sure Noah had strapped himself in before he got into the driver's seat. He pulled out his phone, calling his Mom and he threw his phone back to Noah. "Talk to Nana. Tell her to meet us at the hospital and let her know you're okay." DJ said, his voice stern and he started to drive towards the hospital, reaching and holding onto Kath's hand to support her as he rolled down her window to give her some cool air to help her breathe. Her feet were up on the seat, her free hand on her lower stomach as she cried silently. DJ could see the blood staining the cotton shorts she was wearing, staining the skin of her inner thighs. It made him hold onto her hand tighter.
"Nana," Noah said quietly, scared of what was going on - he didn't understand why his Mom was bleeding but he'd heard her sob about the baby. It scared him that something could be happening to his unborn brother or sister, that it could be his fault because he worried his parents by running away and getting lost.
"Noah Padilla! Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Karla demanded to know, grabbing Rommel as he went to leave the house - he'd been searching the garage for his flashlight.
"I'm okay, Nana... I was trying to find Mommy's hotel, but Daddy said you have to meet us at the hospital." Noah said, Kath, gripping onto DJ's hand tighter as the pain got worse.
"I'm sorry, Kath, I'm so fucking sorry." DJ choked out as he drove over a pothole and it took all of her willpower not to scream - she didn't want to scare her son.
"What's going on, Noah?" Karla demanded to know, but she was already pulling on her shoes. If DJ wanted her to meet them at the hospital, then she would do just that, no matter what.
"Mommy is hurting," Noah mumbled and Karla instantly grabbed her car keys and raced out of the house, Rommel not hesitating to follow his wife even though he had no idea what was going on.
"We're on our way, Noah, alright? Then we have to have a serious talk about what you did tonight." Karla warned and Noah agreed before they both hung up, Noah's eyes going to the back of Kath - all he could see from his car seat.
"Mommy, are you okay?" Noah asked nervously, but Kath couldn't speak without the fear of just sobbing.
"She'll be fine, Noah, okay? Don't worry." DJ answered for her, the car falling into silence but it was a tense silence - the only break in it was the sound of Kath's sniffles as she cried silently, terrified that it would be too late to save her baby.
DJ pulled up outside the ER, jumping out of the car and rushing around to Kath. He knew that Noah could get out himself and he was sat on the same side as the sidewalk, so it was safe for him to get out. It didn't take long for the little boy to be at DJ's side, but he was giving him space to help Kath out of the car.
"I-I'm gonna throw up." Kath choked out and DJ had just enough time to pull her hair out of her face before Kath started to throw up into the grass they'd parked beside - doctors who were on their breaks outside the hospital were instantly rushing over, seeing the blood running down Kath's bare legs. It didn't take a genius to figure out what was happening to the young woman in front of them.
"Okay, sweetheart, okay - you just let it out." The doctor was around the same age as Karla, having a similar demeanor and caring nature that Karla just seemed to ooze. "Can I have a wheelchair over here?!" She called in the direction of the ER, and it was less than ten seconds later when a porter was jogging over pushing a wheelchair in front of him. "Are you pregnant, sweetheart?" The doctor asked quietly, noticing the little boy nearby who was watching with tear-filled eyes, scared out of his mind.
"I w-was..." Kath choked out, sobbing as DJ and the doctor helped her down into the wheelchair and she reached for Noah, holding his hand as she was rushed into the hospital.
