Chapter 35

Kath laid down beside DJ on the couch, a content sound escaping her lips. One of the couches in the living room had been pulled out into a double bed and it was still comfortable, which was a relief for her. DJ had spent plenty of nights sleeping on the couch, it was different and comforting to have someone to share the bed with.

"You were pretty quiet tonight... is everything okay?" DJ asked, wrapping his arms around her. They didn't bring anything for themselves to wear to bed, so they were only in their underwear. Kath didn't have her bra on, though, she couldn't sleep with it on especially now she was pregnant.

"It was all just new to me... everything that happened tonight was new. I never had meals with my family, I'm not used to people asking me questions and genuinely caring about what I have to say, not just searching for a quote they can use for a magazine article... I never sat and watched movies with my family... I got beat by my parents, I got locked in my bedroom without food until my Mom died and the CPS got involved a few years later when school were concerned about bruises and my attitude... I just... family is a new concept to me." Kath admitted and DJ caressed her cheek. His heart broke for her, he couldn't ever imagine what it was like for her growing up. He didn't know everything and he knew he never would know every little detail of her life as a child, but what he did know tore him apart. It made him more determined to show her what a true family was, to show her what true parents are like.

"I hope I'm not pushing you too far. I don't wanna force you to do things you're not ready for." He said, but Kath shook her head.

"I'm ready for it, I want it... I want our baby to be born surrounded by his or her family."

"This baby is gonna be the luckiest baby in the world, and you wanna know why?" DJ said, caressing her cheek delicately as they both laid on their sides, facing each other and Kath smiled.

"Tell me."

"Because he or she already has a family who love and support each other, they have a big brother who is so excited to be a big brother that he might explode..." DJ said, smiling when it made Kath laugh. "They have a Daddy who is willing to do just about anything to make them happy, they have the best Mommy they could ever ask for... and there are millions of people out there who adore you, who will instantly love this child just as much as they all seem to love and support Noah already. No matter what happens, this baby will always be loved and know what the meaning of a family is and so will you." DJ connected their lips and Kath kissed him back, the kiss very quickly getting more heated. Their arms locked around each other, DJ bringing Kath closer to him and laying her on her back. He was always careful not to hurt her shoulder, knowing that moving too fast or too much would make her ache and be in pain. "I love you." He breathed, their underwear discarded on the floor with the rest of their clothes they'd been wearing for dinner.

"I love you too." She breathed, the two of them crashing their lips together as they connected for the first time since the shooting - their kiss was all that kept them from being loud, from crying out. They moved together in perfect sync, touching in every possible way as they climbed higher and higher towards their climax.

"Oh my Gosh!" A voice made them instantly break apart, using the sheets to cover their naked bodies.

"Mom!" DJ choked out, Kath unable to even look in Karla's direction as she stood in the doorway of the living room.

"I'm... just going to grab some water," Karla said, before walking away and Kath groaned, DJ  unable to stop himself from laughing, only laughing harder when Kath hit him in the chest.

DJ had to practically drag Kath through to the kitchen the next morning for breakfast, seeing his parents and Noah already sat at the table.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Noah beamed, rushing to hug them both and Kath knelt down, giving him a hug and kissing his cheek.

"How did you sleep?" Rommel asked, but the amusement in his expression told both DJ and Kath that he knew exactly what had happened the night before.

"Oh, I slept fine." DJ played along and Kath groaned.

"It was good to see you were feeling better, sweetheart," Karla said to Kath, teasing her and Kath groaned again, making everybody laugh and Noah giggled.

"Why are you making those noises, Mommy?" Noah asked and DJ pointed to Rommel before he could say something.

"Don't," DJ warned, making Rommel laugh and Kath blushed dark red.

"Nothing, baby, it's fine," Kath said, standing upright. "I'm sorry." She mumbled to DJ's parents, who just laughed.

"Oh, stop it. What do you want for breakfast?" Karla asked.

"Yeah, because you worked out quite an appetite, I hear." Rommel teased again, laughing as Kath groaned and buried her head in DJ's chest.
