Chapter 81

Liza found a seat a little further down the hallway, scrolling through the contacts in her phone before she called DJ, holding the phone against her ear. She leaned forward in her seat, but her eyes remained fixed on Kath's hospital room door.

"Hello?" DJ answered, but Liza could hear the bustling restaurant around him - he was on his date with Jasmine, that much was clear.

"Hey. You have to come to the hospital - like, right now." Liza said and DJ's eyes widened.

"Wait, what? Why?!" He demanded to know.

"Kath collapsed at the movie theater, they're keeping her here overnight but you need to be here." Liza urged and DJ nodded his head quickly.

"Of course, I-I'll be right there. Don't leave her alone! She hates hospitals." DJ begged, the two of them hanging up and Liza jogged back to Kath's room, letting herself in and she just held her best friend as Kath continued to sob.

"He's on his way, Kathryn... don't cry, K... please don't cry. This is a blessing! Another little baby...!" Liza blinked back tears as Kath was practically screaming through sobs, clinging onto Liza as if her life depended on it. Liza only pulled away when Kath quietened down, seeing that her best friend had cried herself to sleep. Liza sighed, using her sleeve to wipe away the last of Kath's tears but it was clear that she was broken - terrified.

DJ was instantly rushing to pull on his jacket.

"Hospital? DJ, what's going on? Is it Dylan?!" Jasmine exclaimed, but DJ shook his head quickly, shoving his phone in his jacket pocket. His hands were shaking as he fumbled, trying to find his car keys.

"Kath collapsed at the movie theater and they're keeping her in overnight. I fucking told her to sit down and eat at the Zoo, I should have fucking forced it down her throat - FUCK SAKE, WHERE ARE MY KEYS?!" DJ yelled in pure frustration, Jasmine picking them up from the table and handing them to him and DJ took them quickly in his trembling hands.

"I understand that you have to be with her - just keep me updated, okay? Text me." Jasmine urged and DJ nodded, barely paying attention to what she was saying.

"We'll rearrange." He said, speaking quickly and he left two twenty dollar bills on the table to pay for the dinner they'd just ordered and he ran out of the restaurant and to his car, diving in and he drove as quickly as he legally could towards the hospital. All he could see was Kath and how she swayed at the Zoo, how pale she looked. It made him drive that much faster, desperate to see her and know what was happening.

Liza turned her head as there was a knock on the door, relieved to see DJ. "Shh... she's asleep." Liza whispered and DJ nodded his head, shutting the door quietly behind him as he let himself in and it pained him to see look impossibly paler than she did earlier that same day. He could see the tear stains on her cheeks.

"Has the doctor been?" DJ asked quietly and Liza nodded her head.

"Yeah, but I'll let her tell you what they said herself." Liza said, keeping her hand in Kath's and DJ sighed, sitting in the chair Liza was once sat in as she waited for Kath to come around from her unconsciousness.

"I'm guessing Kath told you about the date?" DJ asked, keeping his voice low.

"It's not my place to say anything to you about what you decide to do or who you date... it's just my duty to be there for my best friend and for her kids, because no matter how much she lies to herself and says she has no rights over Noah, you and I both know that this is killing her... being away from Noah is killing her, not feeling like she can say anything about it because she isn't his birth Mom... I need to go, I don't wanna argue with you and wake her up and she needs you right now a little more than she needs me. Tell her I'm in the cafeteria with Enrique." Liza spoke barely above a whisper, getting up from the bed and she walked out of the hospital room, grabbing Enrique before he could pass her and knock on the door.

"What are you doing? I have food for her." Enrique argued.

"DJ's here for her."

"Why? Isn't he the last person she wants to see?" Enrique assumed and Liza sighed.

"Yes... but right now, she needs him." Liza mumbled, which only confused Enrique further but Liza wasn't going to say a word to him about the pregnancy - it wasn't her news to tell anybody.

DJ moved the chair closer to the bed once he was alone with her, touching her face lightly with the back of his hand but he pulled his hand away when she stirred and woke up from the touch, her vision focusing on DJ and it made her eyes line with fresh tears.

"DJ..."

"You need to tell me what's going on and you need to tell me right-"

"I'm pregnant." She choked out, tears rolling down her cheeks as DJ stared at her, completely stunned.
