3. The Lottery Ticket

One week later

I was back from college, when my mom told me that she had purchased a lottery ticket. I had no faith in lottery tickets. My mom had brought it under my name. Also, I did not believe in luck at all. The prize was a trip to Macau. Though the odds were against me and despite my no-luck belief, I was happy to go to Macau for a vacation. My lottery number was 5557773331. All were odd numbers and then I suddenly remembered the famous line in the movie Hunger games as "MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR", which of course doesn't match here and it was because of the odd numbers, I thought of it and I wished it would be in my favor. My final exams were over and, next day we had the results of the lottery to be announced. I went there alone and there was a big crowd waiting there eagerly for the results. The announcer came and he said

"Third place is to the number 2224448880 and it goes to Ms. Chin Eun Saki, my classmate's mom. Her price is a microwave oven", he said. I saw her climbing up the stage beaming, with a wide spread grin on her face and receiving the coupon for the price. I was happy for her.

"The second place is to the number 1112223334 and it goes to Mr. Jung So Hyeon and he wins a refrigerator", he said. I saw a man of about 40 years climbing up the stage and receiving his coupon. Though he won, he looked stern and unhappy.

Only the first place was left and I lost my confidence entirely. Anyway, I prayed that it must be my number next. I found the 3rd and 2nd places were both fancy numbers and my lottery ticket also had a fancy number. I wish the odds would favor me.

"The first prize- a trip to Macau goes to the number... goes to the number...5557773331 to Ms. Heartina Williams", he shouted.

I could not believe my ears at all. I was shocked and I went up to get my prize coupon. I went home directly to share this news with my parents. They jumped with happiness at this news. We were going to Macau in a week. WOW!! I was really excited.
