8 letters // why don't we
•
mike & elIf Mike were as brave as he'd hoped to be, he would've just told El he loved her at the cabin. It wouldn't have mattered that everyone was around, they had already heard him admit it not even a minute before El emerged from her bedroom.
He should've told her then, but he couldn't. He just couldn't get the words out. They were there, on the tip of his tongue, slightly freaking him out given that was the first time he had spoken them aloud, but they were still there.
He was only standing in his own way of telling her those three words and thinking back, he was royally pissed at himself.
If all it is is eight letters, why is it so hard to say?

Mike found another opening, another chance to tell her. This time he was set on revealing his feelings for her and nothing could stop him.
Unfortunately, though, the universe had other plans.
"El?" Mike spoke softly, bringing his gaze back up to meet hers.
"Yeah?" El's eyes widened for a brief second, her interest piqued due to his sudden change in mood.
"I've been meaning to tell you something." He said, opening up the flood gates that would surely lead to him babbling like a fool, as he tended to do around her. "It's just, being broken up, it's been hard."
The faint sound of static coming from the Supercom on the floor interrupted for a moment, but Mike kept going. He had something to tell El, so whatever that was could wait.
"And I like that you and Max are friends now. It's just, I was jealous at first and angry and that's why I said all that stupid stuff. And it's like, I wanted you all to myself."
El's brows rose for a moment, but she didn't say anything, just listened intently as he spoke.
"And now I realize how unfair that is and selfish and like, I'm sorry."
El smiled warmly, the kind of smile that always gives him butterflies inside. She placed her hand on his knee, her comforting touch easing his nerves just a tiny bit.
"I just, like, I've never felt like this, you know, with anyone before and..."
If all it is is 8 letters, why is it so hard to say?
"You know, they do say it makes you crazy." He quipped, hoping she'd get what he was saying.
"What makes you crazy?"
Speak your mind, you fool.
"You've never heard that term? You know like the phrase? Like, blank makes you crazy? Like the word?"
"Girlfriends?" She wondered aloud, clearly trying to fill in the blank he was referring to.
"No no no, not girlfriends." He quickly denied, with a rushed shake of his head.
"Boyfriends." El said, this time more sure of her answer.
"No no no no, not boyfriends either. It's like, it's like a feeling." He rambled, trying to get the words out, but was failing miserably.
"Feeling?" Her heard her utter quietly.
"Yeah, like something... Old people say it to each other sometimes."
